Mark, this is great! Thank you for taking the time to send all of these. I have seen a couple of them, but there are some new ones as well. I will watch them. Much appreciated!!
Thank you for the confidence boost.... what a great group of people that have responded to my questions. I drove the GM product today, and now I have driven everything. Hands down the Ranger was my favorite. Ride, power, comfort, etc. Now it's time to figure out which model. I'll keep you...
Hi Phil, thank you! I have been reading over your posts and appreciate your knowledge and for sharing with everyone.
Do you have any advice or counsel around how to get the most mileage out of the 2.3 Ecoboost in terms of longevity? I am meticulous about my maintenance, and would love to...
Literally just went to the local Ford dealership and drove one with the FX4 package. By far, this is the best riding, most comfortable truck in this category. I guess time will tell about long-term reliability. It's encouraging that so few owners seem to have any significant problems.
I've seen a post on the frame construction, and how some people have said that the boxed frame is superior to the C channel frame from a durability standpoint. I've also seen some diehard Toyota people say the C frame is better for articulation. Quite honestly, I am thinking that I would...
Thank you for this post. The more I am reading, the more I am thinking about which truck is going to be more comfortable and get better gas mileage - the Ranger. Maintenance is key, and issues can happen whether you have a Blue Oval or a TO on the badge.
This confirms my experience driving the Tacoma. I wanted to like the Toyota because of their reputation, but after spending time with both, the Ranger felt easier to live with, and even though it’s not cheap, it’s still about 3k cheaper than a similar equipped Tacoma where I live.
What was the deciding factor for you to get rid of the Tacoma? Knowing what you do today, would you buy the Ranger again, or would you cross shop something else?
Thanks for this information -- this is great. Sounds like the Ranger is the better truck to "live with" day to day. As a commuter truck with weekend projects probably makes the most sense. I did a comparison of fuel economy using: fueleconomy.gov and figuring I do about 23,000 miles/year...
That is a good way to put it. The drivetrain in the Tacoma was slow to respond, and by the time you give it the gas to accelerate, it downshifts a couple of gears, and then you are at 4500 RPM before you know it.
It's good to know these can take some licks and keep going. It's been ingrained that Tacoma's will last longest, but after seeing threads on the 3rd gen, and driving it, makes me think that maybe this was true at one time, but not so much anymore, and any truck can make it to 200K if you...
