  1. GM Class Action Lawsuit. ....Early 10R80 Next?

GM is at risk for a multi billion dollar settlement for design and manufacturing defects in their 6.2L V8 L87 engines. The story isn't too different from Ford's 10R80 problems. I wonder if 10R80 customer complaints will result in a similar action...
  2. Old Rangers Never Die

Menard's parking lot. ....Midwestern thing. Since I got my 2019 Ranger I've been paying more attention to older models. Generally they are in surprisingly good shape for their age. ...can't say I've seen a rust bucket. Maybe a bit of rust here and there. Photo is an example. Iowa, second rust...
  3. DTC P051b after UPR Catch Can Install.

My catch can is doing what is supposed to do. 6-8 weeks and 800 miles and it's collected 2" of summer liquid. But since I installed the MIL and above DTC clears but then returns. All the connections are visible and rechecked for leaks. I've relubed the seals and checked catch can tightness...
  4. Best Diagnostic Software for our Rangers?

Several weeks ago I purchased a Diacom marine engine diagnostic kit to wring out a problem with my 4.3L direct injected boat engine. It wasn't cheap, but the $700 price paid off. The kit included a program CD (waste of time...it was outdated and fresh versions are free to download) and an engine...
  5. Ignition key cycling to clear MIL?

I have small vacuum leak in my PCV circuit after installing my catch can. I left my scan tool at our river house so I'll have to wait to use the tool to clear the code after the fix. IIRC some older vehicles would clear an inactive code with several key on-off cycles. Does this work on our Rangers?
  6. Need Direction Diagnostic Guidance.....for a 4.3L Boat Engine.

Admins and Moderators, please forgive me. My boating forums replied with crickets when I posted this issue. Advanced EFI and ECM inputs are apparently a bit scary. Short story. Engine is a 2021 Vovlo Penta 4.3 DI (GM industrial engine) 250 hp which ran like a beast until this year. Naturally...
  7. Hack for UPR Catch Can Install on 2019 Ranger.

I just installed a UPR Catch Can, but not to the method in their instructions for the 2019 Ranger. This requires removing the driver's wheel and the oil change flap and fishing around in the blind to find two quick disconnects on the PCV hose. There wasn't room for my hand. I bailed after two...
  8. Quarts of ULV per Fitzstick Graduation?

Just finished installing my PPE pan and new trans filter. One qt LubeGuard and five qts of ULV. Cold engine off level was around '3'. After a good warm up drive the stick was dry. So off to the dealer for more ULV. I'm starting in the blind, but think two qts should get me close to Mike's...
  9. Replace Heat Shield with PPE Trans Pan?

I dropped my plastic trans pan today. I'm letting it dribble before I install the PPE pan tomorrow. The factory pan had a heat shield covering the right side and part of the front. I reckon it is to protect the plastic pan from CAT heat. I'm considering pitching the shield into the recycling. I...
  10. Fitzstick Installation Tips?

I'm taking a break from my Fitzstick installation. As the instructions stated, getting the OEM fill plug out is tough, and has me stumped so far. Going after it from under the truck isn't working. ...no room for leverage. So I stacked every socket extension I own, with a U joint swivel on the...
  11. $189 Transmission Flush + Filter. ....for real?

I stopped by dealer yesterday to swap Ford semi-syn oil for their full syn engine oil. I stopped at the service desk to talk to the manager about a flush for my 10R80. He was busy, but his assistant is hot, hot. So I asked her. Some lower price for a dump, filter, refill. $189 for a flush +...
  12. Don't hate me. Another engine oil post

Engine oil choice is like religion to many. I've been 100% syn for at least 27 yrs. I didn't read the OM before my first oil change, just the filler cap. "SAE 5W-30". So I've been using high quality full syn since. (Based on the cap some may have gone with mineral. No SE or other grade...
  13. Sump Drain Plug Thread Size?

My Ranger is yapping at me to change the engine oil. I did it last year and it was a bit of a PITA. I have a sump to hose fitting I used on a past boat to simplify oil changes. It's a fitting that screws into a small block Chevy oil pan with a oil/gas rated hose with a pipe cap. Trouble is I...
  14. First Real Towing Experience. I'm Happy.

Yesterday we towed our new boat from our river house back home. 108 hilly miles from Dubuque to Cedar Falls IA. 4000#. Don't know the tongue weight, but it was adequate. The hitch squats 3/4" from the load. I stayed at 65 mph mainly to protect the canvas boat cover. Once up to speed the Ranger...
  15. I Saw a Ranger SX...Something. ...What is it?

I saw a 2021 Ranger Super Crew in Lowe's parking lot. ....looked like a dealer demo. No temp registration, just the dealer's badge on the rear plate. The decal badging on the box wasn't FX4, but SX.... don't remember the number. What is this? A new off road package?
  16. Ranger CD Tech Manual Requires IE-11. Uh-Oh(?)

Microsoft is abandoning Internet Explorer in favor of their Edge browser. I use Firefox, but keep IE because the Ranger's CD manual requires it to run. My CD is not with me right now, so I haven't tried to run it with Edge. ...in fact I have Edge hidden. ..anyone know if the CD will work on...
  17. Using Bluetooth Phone Changes Radio Station

I recently gave my Ranger five stars on the " I want to encourage new Ranger owners/potential owners " thread. ..Oops, now my first complaint. When I hang up from a Bluetooth phone call the radio resumes.....on a different station. Not a preselect. Anyone experience this? Any settings tweaks...
  18. Do Window Wind Deflectors Work on a Ranger?

I smoke cigars. A 5x60 robusto or toro will last through the 107 mi trip between our main home and our river house. I crack the driver's window a bit to exhaust the smoke. Previous vehicles had powered rear windows, so I'd crack the window behind me a bit also. Worked great. This pulled the...
  19. Remote Oil Filter Kit for Ranger5G?

I just completed the first oil change on my Ranger. ....first class mess it was. I'm OK with removing the skid plate for sump drain access, LF tire and the bottom of the rubber shield for filter access. But the filter dribbles everywhere. I saw this coming before I loosened it, so I had...
  20. Several threaded inserts/holes in my Ranger's box. How to use?

Finally fixing my Bedrug to the box. I've noticed at least eight tapped holes/threaded inserts. Two in each box side by the tail gate. Two more in each side near the wheel hump. Vehicle mfgrs are fairly accommodating for their own, or aftermarket attachments and add-ons. What attachments use...
