NICE! only getting a little bit of UT but we depart northern California friday, will be at Monument Valley sunday and Natural Bridges tuesday then Grand Canyon, then to our CA desert place and more. We've done the big 5 etc a few times, such a beautiful place, looks like you got WAy out there...
  2. How long are these shocks supposed to last?

i really only felt it when i had a load on AND was on the freeway, once in awhile it would bounce. it is amazing how bad they can get and still seem fine most of the time. I do notice how stiff the new ones are but the stock rears that were so worn out i could easily squeeze them All the way...
  3. How long are these shocks supposed to last?

get bilstein 4600s, or better if you want to spend more$. (edit, noting you are in a tremor you probably want better than the 4600 shocks) but yours sure sound done your shocks are done./ mine might be a little worse than yours but wait for it/ im in a 2wd supercab, i drive on dirt roads quite a...
  4. Solved: many messages and auto stop problems/ DOH!

To save everyone time and avoid a barrage of "your battery is starting to go bad" comments I'll do this in reverse- Solution: the battery cables were a little bit loose, totally solved the problems. I'll give more details on that in the summary. Here is a list of all the messages and problems...
  5. Differentials and Transfer Case Fluid Change

changed the rear end oil on my 19 2wd no locking differential yesterday/ notes: fill level of 1.75L = 1.8 Qts AND that is pretty much exactly how much i put in as it started leaking out the fill hole SO- you can pretty much do it the old fashioned way and just fill until it overflows a little...
  6. Fuel capacity

it matters when you run it to empty// on my 2019 it is listed at 18.9 and seems like that is accurate/ i have never filled it all the way from negative "zero miles to go" but i do a lot of road trips and do the calculations, run it low enough to say yeah definitely well over 18, 18.9 is...
  7. Transmission Service

believe it or not that was pretty standard, others report the same/ that said TOTAL ROBBERY/ the Labor was over 600 of it and it took under 4 hours. Insane. I have to admit though, having done many manual transmission replacements and some automatics// still rather pay them than drop the pan myself.
  8. Transmission Service

i paid over $900 for drop pan change out all fluid and replace transmission filter and that is apparently typical for the Dealer. I did it at about 61K it is actually recommended at 100K but most of us are getting it done in one way or another at 60. some people just change the fluid.
  9. Had a Maverick XLT Hybrid for the weekend

if they had a full size bed and super cab i'd probably be in one, there's a lot to like./. but the Ranger sure does look better.
  10. E10 Fuel

only one problem with that one we have no gas caps anymore hahaha// but yeah otherwise correct, i think it says it on the tube anyway, same difference
  11. E10 Fuel

not sure why they make an E10 distinction in other places, maybe because they offer both but in most of CA you are getting what is technically E10 quite often. All ARCO gas is at least 10% ethanol, i avoid it because it doesn't seem to run as well in my vehicles but check any gas pump in CA it...
  12. 2021 Ranger - 31k miles - Head Gasket Blown

im not sure why they went right to saying you needed a new engine, that would confuse anyone. I think you'll be ok now that the gasket is fixed
  13. 2021 Ranger - 31k miles - Head Gasket Blown

if all they found was a bad head gasket, it should be ok since you got to it quickly. someone else will have to detail what might happen to the head itself but the engine below it should be ok now that the problem is fixed. you don't typically replace the engine after a blown head gasket...
  14. Auto start/stop suddenly back, not responsive

it says in the manuals if you are running a bunch of stuff it will stop auto stopping to save battery
  15. Auto start/stop suddenly back, not responsive

check your battery connection. it may have loosened over time and winter. curious to see how many others find their connection loosened a little
  16. Steps

mine is a supercab but i got these / sometimes they go on sale. amazon has a lot of cheap options that mount to the factory mounts. use a flat knife type thing to pry out the plastic covers over the threaded holes/ easy. amazon steps for supercab
  17. Maximizing Battery Life

im going to do a thorough and somewhat comical post soon but also applicable here: make sure your connections are tight. battery will charge better and last longer if properly connected. cold weather, time and vibration can loosen the main connections a little
  18. Tacoma Xtracab, rear 'doors' don't open

i already prepared Roxana for the eventuality of replacing the transmission some day for pretty much the same reason
  19. Coolant
