I've been following this thread and Saeb's forum thread (which went quite last year), and am curious: does anyone know of other sources for possible progress on activating Trail Control?
Maybe someone knows, but nothing's been posted on here.
I'm assuming no progress, but, can't hurt to check :D
Thanks Phil :) Some of the drain valves do look sketchy; some others seem better. Has anyone been using the Valvomax drain plug for a long time?
Is it reliable?
Another question, just to check in case. I know this is a silly question =)
The drain plug torque is for plug/threads that have oil on them, correct?
Requesting dry threads after an oil change wouldn't be standard practice, but again, just double-checking :)
The 5-mesh size i used (slightly less than 1/4", as linked in my prior post) does have about a 7% area reduction IF just considering using the front area of the mesh.
This is small but non-negligable.
But, since the mesh insert I made was curved somewhat, and also allows air in from the side...
I leave it in. It should be okay to leave it in, since it's probably just a small % of the total input area. Having a mesh may cause a tiny bit more turbulence on the intake tube, but the air filter in the box should smooth airflow out anyway.
I used this 5-mesh Stainless Steel mesh, to make...
Yeah, agreed :) I was just responding to the earlier comment that said 350 lbs is the max that can be in the bed:
" the max toung weight for a stock Ranger(no GVM upgrades) is 750 lbs. 200 taken from the trailer and 200 from the Smart Cap leaves just 350. And if more than 350 lbs is in the bed...
Huh -- i thought it was this: the maximum payload is ~1500 lb, and tongue weight (aka max 750 pounds, which is 10% of 7500 lb max towing capacity) is part of the payload capacity.
So if using the full 750 lb max tongue weight, the rest of the vehicle can only have 1500-750=750 lb payload.
I have the autofold mirror module (folds / unfolds mirrors on lock/unlock)
The passenger side power mirror is stuck when autofold correctly opens the driver's side.
When I use the manual fold button that came with the vehicle, it opens fine.
Has anyone seen this? Any thoughts?
Hmmm...200 lbs smartcap weight should be fine though, no? Combined load carry is max ~1500 lb, so that leaves 1300 lb for people/accessories/tongue weight.
This was a great idea. I did the same, with some modification. See last photo for quick-disconnect connector. From the top, the connector pokes out very little (~3 mm) beyond the tailgate, so using the bumber step is still easy.
Shoot, that's low. I'm surprised that it's lower than the city-only mpg, though. Doesn't city mileage include stop and go?
Shouldn't that number be the minimum we ever see in these vehicles under normal, non-loaded, level driving conditions?
Here is my implementation, for both the cabin filter intake and engine intake. It's of stainless steel mesh, cut to size with tabs that snap in place inside the various inlets.
Accessing the cabin filter intake:

On this next one, it looks curved on the bottom with a...
To those interested: it did come off, thanks to encouragement above:)
Yanking upwards was the key. It does take a lot of force, at least the first time.
Thanks, interesting! It just slid out for them. I yanked several times, and even tried prying, and it was stuck solid -- not even a little give.
I'll fiddle around with it more and post back, for those who also might be wondering this :)
Interesting; thanks. I pulled like crazy (of course, after the bolts were removed), and it was just stuck in place.
I'll try again and be more aggressive :)
Thanks for asking :)
I'm referring to what's called the "air cleaner intake duct" in the manual. It's the snaked input tube to the filter box, that has two bolts holding it onto the top rail of the engine compartment.
On one end it's open air, and he other end is the filter box.
It's held in...
