30 years, 6 Army, 24 Navy. One of the earlier folks to go to Vietnam (65-66) while in the Army and helped with the evacuation while in the Navy (75).
Always trying to keep an upbeat attitude about those Vietnam days please allow a story,
Got back from VN on 30 June 1966. GF and I were...
Some time ago I thought I was a battery genius. I was not, and the people in the know about batteries are those folks living off the grid. Google it. AGM batteries are measured to 50% DOD (depth of discharge). The most popular AGM battery, Optima, is good for 400 cycles to 50% DOD. There is...
A good friend was visiting about month go. He's a hard core GM guy from Iowa but asked me about my Ranger. I told him if he is worried about power get behind the wheel. As soon as we turned on the highway his first words were, "damn this thing is fast." "How is it with a load?" "Four...

"Reading through this thread I'm a little confused. I know we are talking about the rear locker, but beyond that are we discussing Traction Control, Terrain Management or Trail Control? My understanding is this. Traction Control is basically always there and can be turned off with...
A locker is very useful in specific conditions, but remember while cornering, or during a sharp turn, there is less traction when the rear is locked than when unlocked. This is because a slipping tire has less traction than one that is not slipping. The most traction is just prior to slippage...
If you are handy there are all manner of after market heated seats available - and a LOT cheaper than having someone install them. For example, the Can-Am dealer wanted $200 per seat to install heated seats in my Maverick SxS - and only the bottoms. On e-bay I found heated backs and bottoms...
As an aside, my experience and advice with alignment shops. Take you vehicle to a shop that ONLY does alignments, not a shop that alignment is secondary to its primary business. And as demonstrated by Jacob, you do not need a $12,000 machine to align your vehicle.
Had a 1984 Audi Quattro...
Dan,
I note you are from Utah. If you are near SLC the place I took my '05 to was GRS Driveline (801-972-1753, 930 W 2100 S. Very professional and they do nothing but driveshafts including 18-wheelers.
Dave,
Yes, I knew I had to change the state, but at what point to I make that insertion?
Navigation -> Destination -> change state?? ->
or
Change state -> Navigation ->
or
Navigation -> Change State -> Destination ->
You get the idea. Tired of swearing at the Nav system out of frustration...
Okay, feeling pretty old and not very smart, or at least tech savy. I own three Ford vehicles and each has navigation. Despite my efforts over the years (by '12 Focus ST also had Nav) I am unable to vocally insert an address or POI successfully, particularly when that address is out-of-state...
For those of you with a vibration you are unable to diagnose, here's another data point.
I had the same issue with my '05 and was unable to fix it. Finally as a last resort I took the truck to a drive line shop. The driveshaft was not only out of balance, it also slightly bent. They said...
I stand corrected about the "W." However, check a 20-40.
A story. My wife moved to Hawaii a year before I did in the late '80s. I knew she would not change the oil in our '84 Audi 4000 quatro 5-cyl (67,000 miles) so I changed to Mobil One prior to her departure with the car. Keep in mind...
Every time the subject of oil (or gas) comes up a real food fight ensues. Everyone has their own opinion and everyone else is nuts. Please allow some input from someone that is likely one of the oldest guys on this forum and whose father was in the gas and oil business - I grew up with it...
Yes, I've got the problem too. It's also the same on my Escape and RS. i'm wondering if it has to do with the new water based paint mfgrs are using these days.
Since my '19 was an early build, I had the dealer check the initial issues this and other forums were bringing up. He said the bed...
Mike, did you mean 3 microns, or 3/10s of a micron? Don't think there is a filter on the market with enough "through put" to work at 3/10s of a micron. If there is...I'm on it.
I lived in San Diego for 35 years and lived through the SoCal fires of the late 80s. My heart goes out to everyone...
CO2/O2. The average new home replaces inside air 3x/hour. Although vehicles today are much better ("tighter") than previous generations, in no way are they "air tight." CO2/O2 is not a concern. The main reason Ford has chosen to auto disable recirc after a time (I don't like it much either)...
Be advised that most LSDs have clutch packs and those clutches wear out around 70K and need replacing. It's not cheap. That said, for most daily driving a LSD is more suitable than the lockers on today's trucks. Personally, for the driving I do, I would much rather have torque vectoring...
I own a Ranger Lariat. The water temperature gauge is only on one of the left hand screens. Can FORSCAN program the water temperature gauge to show on the other screens?
