I asked them if they could do the trans service while they had it so I couldn't have to bring it back in a few weeks. The dealerships I've called around here have recommended anywhere from 65k to 80k miles. I'd rather do it earlier than recommended than later.
They tried to get some more...
Transmission service and oil change. I was coming up on the reccomended mileage for trans and only about 900 miles before I needed an oil change. Asked them to do those while it's there.
Talked to the dealership again today. They sold it to me with a third party lifetime powertrain warranty. It's going to cost me the deductible of $100 to get it fixed. I thought it was going to be a fight, pleasantly surprised. Didn't get a better explanation of what's wrong with it. Going...
Just got the call a few hours ago. They said pretty much the whole rear end is going to have to get replaced. Something about a friction modifier. I've got a Friday buzz so I was really chill and just said thanks instead of asking questions.
All good, I guess we are all expecting threads about transmission issues at this point lol
I'll see if they piece together when I get home today. They're really light gauge metal.
I wonder if the noise I was hearing a while back after changing the breaks has something to do with it. It might have been a coincidence that it started right after I changed the breaks. I bent back the rotor shields a bit and it doesn't happen as often now, though...
maybe, they don't look like they're shaped right to be a part of that, though. Wouldn't it be making god awful noises if it were a bearing? I drove it about 800 miles from Friday-Sunday with no issues. Changed rear dif oil when I got home yesterday evening. Drove it 43 miles to work this...
Changed it today. 65k miles. It hasn't been making any noise or anything like that, just trying to be overly diligent about maintenance. I know shavings are common but I don't think these qualify as shavings. They're light gauge almost like it's some sort of baffle or something. Oil looked...
Great video, I think I'm going to do this to mine now that it's at 64k miles. This is my first truck so I don't know what to do with a driveshaft or differential as far as maintenance goes.
Just gotta say, I was impressed at how calm you were during that whole video. I'm a pretty patient...
Just put a new LB5Z-9J433-B in mine and it's running like it's new. Thanks for the write up, helped a lot. You made it sound a lot easier than it was but most of my problems were self inflicted. I had to crawl under the truck and dig out wrenchs/pliers a few times.
To anybody considering...
63.5k miles on my 2021 2wd XLT. Averaging 26.3 MPG. Regular unleaded, mostly highway miles. Oil changes (full synthetic) whenever the truck tells me it needs them. I just ordered a DPFE EGR Sensor so hopefully that fixes the only issue (other than a brake shield pinging a rotor on turns)...
How long will you be camping for? Seems like a bed tent would be a pain if you're camping multiple days and need the truck during the day. I'm short so I fit diagonally across the bed. I sleep under my tonneau cover if it's just overnight.
Is this a part that I can easily replace myself? Hopefully there's some good youtube videos of it when I get on wifi.
I've worked on my own vehicles my entire life. Only thing I ever paid to get replaced was a fuel pump because I didn't have the time.
