  1. Shudder at Speed/Infotainment Dead

Actually, yes - just yesterday in fact. See my other thread here: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/sync-black-screen-of-death.16712/page-2 TLDR: the unit is overheating and shutting itself off.
  2. SYNC Black Screen of Death

To my surprise, the dealer was able to replicate and diagnose the issue. And the winner is..... heat. There are two modules behind the display that are connected together. Both were so hot to the touch that the technician wasn't able to hold them. This is unusual, so they are calling Ford to...
  3. SYNC Black Screen of Death

I have a bit of an update on this. I've come to realize that this black screen of death happens every single time I drive this thing longer distances. And this time, I think I've worked out what's going on. As @Dgc333 predicted in post #14, I think it's overheating and shutting itself off...
  4. Searching for Bed rack that works with OEM Hard folding cover

This is true for any cover that is not a high rack.
  5. Searching for Bed rack that works with OEM Hard folding cover

Here's the setup I've spec'd for my ride but haven't bought yet: Truxedo Elevate TS Rails: https://www.stage3motorsports.com/1118329-truxedo-elevate-ts-rails-for-5ft-truck-beds.html Rhino Rack RLT600 legs...
  6. Battery Gauge? / 12 volt power point?

Yeah, we both misspoke. It's a 110V behind the console, not 120V. Do people have a 12V back there instead? I have 2USB's and a 110V on the back side of the center console facing the rear passengers.
  7. Battery Gauge? / 12 volt power point?

Could be your answer right there. Might not have been able to source the parts and decided to deliver them anyway. I didn't know the 120V was something that went missing. Wonder what the 2021's have
  8. Battery Gauge? / 12 volt power point?

Uh oh. Is this another "COVID Casualty"? I have a 2019 (like @SaberRanger) with the 120V outlet. @Tom_C what is your 2020 build date? I wouldn't think the supply issues would be present on pre-May 2020's. They were doing some cost saving measures pre-COVID though...
  9. Ski racks, bars, and setups

I've put together this package from Stage3 that will work with my roll up tonneau. Big sale at Stage3 today gets you this kit for about $100-150 less. Under $500. Haven't pulled the trigger myself just yet ($500 is still a lot to haul around some skis and some bikes) but I'm seriously...
  10. SYNC Black Screen of Death

Never seen this message before. Were you sitting with the vehicle off and the key out of the ignition for 10 minutes?
  11. SYNC Black Screen of Death

Yeah I found that it's definitely NOT just CarPlay. I didn't have mine connected to CarPlay and it still took a shit. I was using Bluetooth though. So you reset it and tested before reconnecting your phone to BT? And what version of SYNC are you using? I download updates right from the Ford...
  12. SYNC Black Screen of Death

Please do. I haven’t updated my original post yet but I have two more driving days where it happened consistently. I wonder if the reset would do anything.
  13. SYNC Black Screen of Death

I know it's been covered in a few threads here, but I wanted to make another because I figure it will help the search algorithm and put another blip on the SYNC engineers that peruse this forum on occasion. Across three different Sync 3.4 versions, my infotainment completely dies while the...
  14. Why are almost all modern engines 2.0-liters? - DRIVETRIBE

I don't think the argument is that the 2.0 is new, but I think they're saying that so many auto manufacturers are focusing on this 500cc/cylinder idea. I wasn't around in 1970, but I have to imagine that the % of new 2.xL engines are higher now than back then. The performance certainly has...
  15. Aftermarket Headlight Options

I installed a HID kit on my GSXR and it fried my stator (which I'm convinced was on its way out anyway). Lights died halfway home on a 20mile trip at about 11pm in the Pennsylvania backwoods. Called the GF to drive in front of me and serve as my headlights. All was well until bike began shutting...
  16. Why are almost all modern engines 2.0-liters? - DRIVETRIBE

Interesting video from DRIVETRIBE about the shift to 2.0 liter engines across the auto industry. I immediately thought of our little 2.3L and how it seems to be very well suited for this truck. And why Ford has been putting 2.x 4-bangers in so many different vehicles. I'm down with 4-cylinders...
  17. Ford Dropped a Bombshell on Chips. GlobalFoundries Stock Is Taking Off.

I can't believe I'm reading a supply chain thread on this forum with well thought out opinions, cogent arguments, and facts. We are healing. I recently listened to a podcast on ASML and was blown away by the chip making process and just how much of the market share a single company controls...

  19. Ughhhhhhhh. Trucks, HOAs, and Garages...

Might be time to find a different community. I get the rule, but as with most rules, solving one problem creates others.
  20. Annoying Rattle From Passenger Side Area Identified (Permanent Fix Yet To Come)

Great work. I tried locking my glove box and wouldn't you know it my rattle pretty much disappeared too. I still believe there's something in my passenger door that's banging on the plastic on occasion, but what I thought was one very annoying rattle has turned out to be two. This fixed the...
