I took the brand new 180A one that came with the crate engine to a local alternator shop https://www.finickiautoelectric.com/. I told them all I was looking for was maybe 230, or 250A at the most. They said their supplier has a 370A kit! I said reliability was the most important thing to me more...
Well I was hoping this winter would be time for significant progress, but it continues to be slower than I'd like. Since my last post this is what's been completed:
Old engine mounts cut off, frame rail sanded and painted with weld-through primer
I straightened the clutch pedal, I'm too anal to...
Where do you drive mostly? Are you on trails constantly? If so if you blow a tire I would NOT trust that one as a spare to get you out.
However if all you do is 15-20 minutes to/from work on pavement, yeah that would probably work fine as a spare to get you to a tire shop.
I've seen quite a few pilot usernames on some of these threads. So... where are the pilots at. What plane(s) do you own/fly?
I know @taildraggerpilot is going to like my hangar.
I'm a CFII/MEI that teaches tailwheel in a J3 cub for fun, I own a Skywagon, and I fly a friend's citation SIC...
None of those are unreliable parts with design deficiencies, nor are they difficult or expensive to change. Luckily it's not your (or my) money I'm spending.
Some of you guys trust and care more about Ford's parts department more than most Ford employees I work with. :giggle:
I'm not sure...
This cherrybomb assembly looks perfect for my co-worker!

And it's less than half the price of a Ford trans.
I did search for this one and I 'may' have found a 10R80 thread that hasn't been mentioned before. A co-workers ranger is in the CDF death spiral but we both agree that we don't particularly trust a dealership, nor should he pay their rates.
Does anyone have a lead or recommendation on quality...
In the day and age of powerful, small, light electric tools I'd be surprised to see someone install onboard air exclusively for air tools.
These days onboard air is almost exclusively for actuating air lockers, and airing up/down beadlock tires at the trail.
I also have a low mileage spare turbo I would sell for waaaay less than a new one. As it turns out, ranger turbos are not directly compatible with the mustang 2.3 ecoboost.
Pm me if you need it. But hopefully the other members solutions work for you.
Which ones?
I'm shopping for one too. It'd be nice to have a trailer for this so you can just hook up to my off-road rig or ranger and be already packed and ready to go on an adventure. It sure beats packing it all up the night before and squeezing the whole family in.
Did you see the suspension on this??? It's wild! It seems like such a well engineered solution.
I do wonder about the standard ball hitch, some of the off road trailers I've seen have some crazy articulating arms to connect to the vehicle, probably a good question for one of these companies...
They're hard to come by, but Broncos have a 230amp alternator for our 2.3L ecoboost. They seem to be on back order just about everywhere, and when not be ready to shell out a good amount for it.
Explorers and Mustangs and their 2.3L ecoboost also have several high output aftermarket alternators...
