Curious, what was the original symptom that led to the driveshaft center bearing being replaced? I had one dealer tell me it needed to be replaced, another said it was fine. The only thing I've noticed that may be related is a noise from the rear-end most pronounced around 60-65 mph.
Not sure if this has already been said, but someone with professional experience should be able to analyze that metal fracture surface and tell you a lot about whether the failure was violent and sudden or if shows any history of weakness developing over time. That would help narrow down the...
Appreciate the replies! Glad to hear I haven't overlooked something glaringly obvious. The reminder about the 17" spare is good, that sounds familiar from when I dropped it to install the rear shocks.
I'm sure this decision depends a lot on the intended use-case, so here's my situation: Stock 18" rims, keeping the OEM tire size. First-time truck owner. Mostly in-town miles as a daily driver, with occasional longer highway trips pulling a travel trailer. Occasional fire-road / gravel / dirt...
Anyone seen info about when the Road and Trail will be available to customers? I had narrowed down to the Discoverer AT3 4S but Iām not in a hurry so now Iām wondering if I should wait to learn more about those.
Iām not real familiar with other types of friction-based hitches, but Iām pretty sure my Blue Ox TrackPro would qualify as friction based and the manufacturer and dealership both state that backing up with them attached is fine. So my recommendation would be to look up what it says in the manual...
Iām on a very similar search as the OP, with the one additional constraint that I tow a 4,300 lb trailer a couple times a month. Iām looking for something with good noise and manners while towing, that handles snow in Illinois when Iām not towing, and is better than average at light off-roading...
The manual does recommend 91 when towing. Doesnāt clearly say if it helps avoid overheating just that youāll get ābest performanceā.
I also noticed this when I re-read the manual today: Has anyone done this before?
This spring I bought a ā21 Lariat FX4. Most of my used car search was for an XLT with options I cared about like the locking rear diff, electric seats, spray in liner, and front parking sensors, which was not a super easy combo to find. I was hours away from pulling the trigger on one when a new...
@Letterkilled thanks for sharing that info, I'm very interested to follow up with my dealership now. I bought my '21 Lariat used and started to notice a drone from the rear peaking around 60-65 mph and changing in tone depending on loading (accelerating vs. engine braking). At my first service...
You didnāt mention your speed: That always has a big effect but even more so with a trailer due to generally larger frontal area. The best and worst Iāve seen in flat Midwest is between ~17.5 and maybe down to 12-13mpg, with a median closer to 15.5. I donāt go faster than 65 on the interstate...
A couple of objective observations from real life considerations I ran into while shopping:
When towing a travel trailer most recommend using a weight distribution hitch that puts torque on your hitch receiver to shift some of the tongue weight onto the front wheel. Iāve yet to see any owners...
I appreciate you taking the time to share those experiences. I personally havenāt had any similar experiences, but I can see how if I had it may affect my trust in the system. I think there is a good argument to be made that drivers should be aware of situations these systems are more prone to...
Towing or not I usually keep my ACC distance on the max setting because Iām trying to avoid stone chips from the vehicle ahead; It seems pretty far. Are people saying thatās not far enough when towing? What kind of a gap are people leaving when towing without cruise?
I would love if someone could spell out in detail what the concern about using regular cruise or ACC is, cause and effect. Is it a rule of thumb because it affects driver complacency? Is it about adjusting speed for different grades? Is it some way in which auto braking could cause an accident...
It wouldnāt shock me if this were true, at least for steady state highway speeds. The differences in drag coefficient of the different size trucks would probably be dwarfed by the aerodynamic drag added by the trailer. Where Iād still expect some differences are in stop and go city traffic where...
Admittedly I am not an experienced tower, but eyeballing the photo of that double axle 17ā trailer compared to my own 20ā single axle trailer, if it were me Iād start by getting some measurements on a CAT scale to see how close the tongue weight (as equipped/loaded) is to that target percentage.
