  1. FORScan Crowdsourced Wiki

Excellent recommendation and good price. Just ordered it. Thank you.
  2. Back to the 2020 FX4 Salvage Rebuild

It worked fine the first time I connected and looked over some things. Next time the adapter wasn't recognized. First thing I did was go to the connection screen and try a few different settings. Nothing changed. Can't imagine I'd get the same error on different machines when it worked once on...
  3. Back to the 2020 FX4 Salvage Rebuild

Got both of the 5100's and upper control arms installed. Not all warm and fuzzy about them though. Height clip is in #5, or the top groove for 2.5" lift. With the jack stands under the frame rails, and a bottle jack next to the lower ball joint, so it's only an inch or so from the face of the...
  4. FORScan Crowdsourced Wiki

I'm trying to connect to scan the steering module of a rack with a cracked housing so I can replace it with a used one and program the original coding if necessary. I purchased the recommended OBDLinkEX cable. It worked once and that's it. Now I'm getting 'No Adapter Found.' Tried three...
  5. Back to the 2020 FX4 Salvage Rebuild

Today's progress. Got the headlights, upper bumper cover support and cover installed. The grill is just mocked up for now. The location of two of the four "Upper Bumper Cover Supports" I ordered became obvious where they went. The other two not so much. Still can't see where they go and the...
  6. Back to the 2020 FX4 Salvage Rebuild

Fenders are back on and the hood adjusted the best I can get it. The new fender is just slightly bulged up about 2/3 of the way back but that's about the best I can get it. The hood needs to go back about another 1/8 inch to make the gap at the front more uniform but the hinges are back as far...
  7. Back to the 2020 FX4 Salvage Rebuild

Well, once again I'm running into more incompetent and unprofessional work that's been done by the body shop on my Ranger. Removed the fenders to seal the passenger fender and install the securing bolt, which they never did, and install the proper insulator on the driver side that I had to...
  8. Back to the 2020 FX4 Salvage Rebuild

A little more progress today. Wired up the ambient air sensor and test fit the bumper to wire the driving lights. The miserable excuse for a body shop didn't even bother to square-up the bumper mounting plate at the front of the rail. Still waiting for the upper bumper cover support mounts then...
  9. Back to the 2020 FX4 Salvage Rebuild

Quick update. Posted in another forum about the overheat error on startup and discovered that it was a stored code that remains when the battery is disconnected. Keeps the motor in limp mode until cleared. Once the error codes were cleared the temp gauge now reads normally. No errors and no limp...
  10. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

That's crazy, especially that no one had a standard hose in stock.
  11. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

I sincerely appreciate your time in detailing this information. I'll spend some time investigating and documenting the steering parameters in FORscan before replacing the broken rack. And naturally an alignment will be needed afterward. The tie rods are being replaced as well. It's also getting...
  12. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

Now we know. Any idea why your hose blew? That seems very odd for a 3-year-old vehicle.
  13. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

I wasn't aware there were any codes retained in memory after disconnecting the battery. Interesting. Yeah I've done the drive around, stop, start, watching the readiness readout more than a few times after doing repairs to get 2 out of 3 to show ready. That's what's required here to pass...
  14. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

What I'm curious about is if the codes are still stored after power is removed. In every other vehicle I've worked on the codes clear when you disconnect power. The several codes showing were there after disconnecting the battery for a time and reconnecting. That would be a new one for me.
  15. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

You, sir, are a stud. When I looked at the DTC's using FORscan, it had the Ambient Air Sensor error and a "P" error that I regretfully did not document. I did save the profile though so maybe the codes are logged somewhere? However, I just went out and quickly looked at the codes using Torque...
  16. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

It's pretty obvious if you know what you're looking for. Curious about that price, though. I'm seeing them from around $25 to $45. EDIT: Just went to Ford Parts like you show and ordered it for pickup at a local Ford dealership. Total price $6.46. Another mystery of the Ford Parts universe.
  17. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

And there it is. I'll order a new one and give it a go. Thanks for the assist.
  18. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

I just took a look and there is no sensor in that area. Take a look at the pic. The engine is still filthy from being at the body shop for a year. I'll clean it once a few more things are sorted.
  19. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

There's conflicting information because I finally found this in the manual. Says it's behind the splash panel through the passenger fender well. That makes no sense since it's mostly exhaust on that side.
  20. Overheat Code on Startup - Where is the Engine Temperature Sensor?

This is the FX4 rebuild project. I'm getting an overheat error on startup and the temp gauge is pegged. This also keeps the vehicle from revving above about 2k RPM. I have poured over the thousand pages of shop manual and cannot locate a temperature sensor to save my life. It's mentioned for...
