  1. Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T vs Falken Wildpeak AT3W

Wanna feel better about price? MT Baja Boss are LT295/70-17E are $485 up here.
  2. Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T vs Falken Wildpeak AT3W

I say go with the MT's. I'm on Duratracs right now, and really want to go to Baja Boss, and a review from a Guinea Pig actual user would be great before I commit. ;)
  3. Winter tires?

I'm also on Michelin X-Ice Snow SUV tires, and love them. I wanted taller to somewhat fit the 3.5" lift, and closer to the 285/70-17 height of my summers, so I went with 255/70-18 (black pack rims). Personally I would never do winter tires without dedicated winter rims. Even just basic steelie...
  4. Recovery wooden boards are cheaper and work just as good.

Maybe we have a different understanding of flex. I've used 2x10 ramps and boards across 6-8 foot gaps with only a few inches of flex. Here's a ~2 foot gap, and the board is almost of the same radius as the tire, providing a foot or more of contact. The cuts and traction grips you cut into the...
  5. FX4 Sticker Removed

My first mod was peeling my FX4 sticker with the power washer less than 24 hours after picking it up. I'd peel every label and branding off if I could. I know it's a Ford Ranger, I don't need no stinkin' labels. ;)
  6. Recovery wooden boards are cheaper and work just as good.

Cons: -Additional weight. -Moisture absorption which adds weight and mold/rot. Even if sealed, UV exposure, strap wear, and any use will probably damage the finish and allow moisture in. -Wood is slippery, even with texturing cuts and bed liner finish, maybe okay for low torque applications...
  7. Reason For My Absence

Good to see you back Dave! I assumed you were at the Annual Snake Oil Sellers convention, but when I called and asked they said even they don't let Tailgate Damper pushers in. ;)
  8. New wheels

That's how I bought my whole truck and all the mods. Well, more like 10X, not a double up. :)
  9. Lariat Leather Seats and Steering Wheel

I love leather seats. They are easier to move around on, easier to clean, and get polished with wear, not wear through or become ragged looking. Dog hair still gets all through my truck, but having short haired dogs, the fur accumulates in the corners, not interwoven through the cloth which is...
  10. Best Jack?

    Best Jack ever!
  11. Do these tire sizes exist?

Tall and skinny is also better in soft and slushy snow, for the same reasons as mud. You cut through the slippery stuff, and get down to the asphalt for better traction and control. My summer/off-road tires are 285/70-17. For winter tires I wanted similar height on my factory 18" rims. I was...
  12. Time to bug you guys/gals for another question.

A agree the op situation is too heavy, and that the propane/batteries are almost full weight on the hitch, but like I said just clarifying for other that not all weight in front of the axle equates to hitch weight. It may not be relavant to the OP situation, but lots of other will read tses...
  13. Do these tire sizes exist?

Differing circumference and tread width are a different topic. Given a 255x33 on a 16" rim vs a 255x33 on an 18" rim will have almost immeasurably small difference in contact patch at similar pressures. In the extreme, you may be able to get a few pounds less pressure in the 16, but very...
  14. Time to bug you guys/gals for another question.

Well, no not completely accurate. Part of the weight added forward of the axle will be added to the tongue weight, but not all. If you have 20 feet between hitch and front trailer axle, and you add 200 pounds 10 feet in front of the axle the weight will be split between axle and hitch. The...
  15. Do these tire sizes exist?

I don't want to say this is wrong, but it definitely needs clarification to support it and photos of various pressures would be prudent. Interested to hear your thoughts on it.
  16. Do these tire sizes exist?

This site has a lot of tire math and information to use. Tire comparrisons, off-set comparisons, etc. When using the tire comparison option, it will list which tires are available in that size. It may not be absolute, but it's been pretty good for the years I've been using it. It says there...
  17. winter lugs

I consider lugs nuts a wear item that need to be replaced every X years. I use the factory nuts year round on the Ranger, and when the time comes I'll buy some replacements. My F150 had the same 2 piece acorn nuts, which eventually separated and I replaced with capless 1 piece traditional style...
