  1. Something very strange happened

I no longer yearn for highest lap-speeds and such, so I LOVE all this safety software. When people say "they don't build them like they used to", I reply "thank God".
  2. Buy A Tailgate Dampening Strut

I just bought one from Varsity Ford. I could not find the "Welcome" discount in the software so I phoned Angie at the dealership and she refunded me that $10 shipping. Nice person, easy to deal with. So, I believe the final bill for this part is $40 shipped. I paid it, but I think that is...
  3. Bad mpg after tune and bolt on

Well, dragsters do not run with any kind of cooling system, while Rangers do. So, apples and oranges, Rangers and dragsters, right? I would not stomp the accelerator on a cold engine, I believe that normal operation, within normal operating parameters, is fine with a cold engine. I start...
  4. Bad mpg after tune and bolt on

I can not think of any mechanical reason to warm up these trucks before operation. Are you doing these long warm-ups just to have a warm cabin before you hop in, or do you know something on the mechanical side that I don't know?
  5. Bad mpg after tune and bolt on

There is obviously something dreadfully wrong here, but using the Ford software to compute this might be a mistake. Is that Ford software reading accurately for you guys? I do not rely on it at all. My mpg reading on the dash is off, usually by -1 to -3 mpg. The dash says that I am getting...
  6. RCMUSTANG'S Auto Folding Mirrors Mod Buy Thread

I would like one, although I am a little sketchy-hesitant on the installation details.
  7. Child Ranger

I wonder if it has a Ford part # so that your friendly local parts guy could order it up for you?
  8. What’s with all the Ranger hate reviews?

Once again, I am glad you are on this site and posting, Phil. We appreciate your perspective and your broad knowledge.
  9. New and Old

My '19 and my niece Lori's '04 Edge.
  10. Full plasti-dip black out finally complete!!!

My concern was with "unsprung" weight, which effects handling unlike sprung weight. And, I am picturing the thick brightly-colored goo we used to dip tool-handles in, which was pretty viscous and dried about 3/32" thick. This is something else, obviously.
  11. Rock Crawling Ranger

In the entire Jemez Mountains of northern New Mexico, my home, there is only one road I would not attempt with my Ranger on decent tires, but I would advise against attempting this road for anyone without a tracked vehicle. Our problem around here is not so much suspension as traction-related...
  12. Rock Crawling Ranger

I l I looked closely at the FX4 package and decided against it for a couple of reasons. First of all, I do a lot of off-roading but it is almost all on dirt roads and forest roads which have usually been graded in the last 5-10 years. We have a lot of steep climbs here in the mountains...
  13. The Tire Pressure Thread.. ... .... .....

FYI. I was able to get a set of additional "take off" wheels to mount snow/winter tires. Now I will just have to do the equivalent to a "pit stop" in December to get ready for snow season, and reinstall the OEM setup in March for better mileage and the quieter ride in dry weather. Lots of...
  14. Full plasti-dip black out finally complete!!!

How much How much does this "plasti dip" stuff weigh, per wheel? I would be concerned about the effects on handling with the additional unsprung weight. Of course you know how heavier tires similarly change handling, does this stuff weigh more or is it in addition to the heavier tire...
  15. Desert run with stock suspension

That sure looks like fun, throwing all those "roostertails" in that beautiful desert flatpan, but my frame of reference is a little different regarding these tires - especially when our local mountain terrain is pictured with a foot of snow.
  16. Desert run with stock suspension

The OEM tires are strictly highway tires, making it hard to really judge Ranger off-road capability. They are fine highway tires, but they will embarrass you the minute you step off the pavement. I bought some "take off" Lariat wheels (cheap!) and mounted a set of serious tires that I can...
  17. Hankook tires, any good?

    I heard that, too.
  18. Hankook tires, any good?

Hello Phil; I did not say that engineering was the problem, I blamed "engineer communication between Ford and Firestone". And when all the lawyers and judges were done with it, that is what they said, too, as I recall reading at the time. I additionally recall the press reporting that the...
  19. Had to buy new tail light XLT

I believe that I will be in the market for a 4-piece set as well. Whew, $900! Does anyone else know of anything aftermarket yet?
  20. DIY Power Sliding Rear Window

I am interested, too. It would be great to be able to shove 9' fly rods right through that window, to motor to the next spot or to lunch with rods secure under the cap.
