Because in order to keep the (not sure if it is a 3" or 2.5") flow the split for the dual tips would be huge! Reducing it makes it usable... other wise it would look silly.

I actually use them. So instead of sliding into the seat and causing the wear and tear all drivers seats get on the door side, I try to step unto the truck. 6'1 here.
