  1. Transmission slipping and rough shifts

Sorry to hear, I hope Ford would offer to help those that actually have a major issue with the transmission, even out of warranty. I usually don’t advocate for over-maintaining a car, but I think these 10R80 should get new fluid every 3/36k or at least once before the Powertrain runs out and...
  2. Forscan and transmission repair under warranty

I would suggest setting all other changes (if you made any besides the adaptive reset) to factory as they may, and can use those, to do further digging for mods. Not implying that anyone should de-mod a truck before taking it in for a warranty repair, but if I flipped a bit with Forscan to...
  3. Transmission Replaced

Come to think of it, when my 10R80 (original one) was shifting poorly it made this louder than normal whistle (not just the usual shift whistle). Does yours slam 4th gear, have delayed engagement at times (i.e. going up hill the downshifts slip and lurch), and there’s a pause and then the...
  4. FIX YOUR MUSHY BRAKES

So I did some hard stops as per airline tech’s instructions and now my brake pedal engages much lower, to keep the truck at a full stop it’s about even with the gas pedal. Wondering if the engagement height will now “creep back up” or if this is just temporary. I did feel some brake fade as...
  5. FIX YOUR MUSHY BRAKES

My Ranger has done this from Day 1. During the test drive (10 miles) I did notice it and when mentioned, was told by the dealer “Ford brakes are all touchy that’s normal”. Later when one of their staff drove it I saw the nosedive at every stop. So mine has done this for a whole year, and...
  6. Forscan and transmission repair under warranty

I think Forscan changes can be reverted without the ECU or other modules “flipping a bit” permanently but anything like a performance tune permanently writes to the flash counter and could void your warranty.
  7. FIX YOUR MUSHY BRAKES

Thanks! I don’t think it is dirt on the pads or rotors, they look clean, and don’t make any noises. I’ve done a manual brake bleed (opening the bleeder valves while someone works the pedal) and there was no change. I haven’t driven another Ranger so don’t know what to compare to, but it’s...
  8. FIX YOUR MUSHY BRAKES

Does anybody have the opposite problem? My brake pedal “catches” so quickly people who drive my truck nearly slam their head on the steering wheel. Compared to performance cars (6th gen Camaro SS, WK1 Jeep SRT8, 5.7L Challenger, C6/C7, etc.) the brake pedal on my Ranger is stupid catchy and...
  9. Oil change boo-boo

Been there done that! The low oil pressure warning should come on approx. 3/4 of a mile if you’ve tightened the new filter down really good. If you hand tightened it, probably earlier. It’s easy to get distracted by a family member, neighbor, etc. and forget. Just don’t drive with the oil...
  10. 4wd L vs 4wd H

It’s impossible to shift into 4L at speed so for those who have claimed (on this forum and others) that they’ve done it, either they are crazy or something is wrong with their truck. It’s nearly mechanically impossible at speed especially at highway speeds.
  11. 4wd L vs 4wd H

Wow, that thing must’ve been turning RPMs so high you couldn’t hear anything in the cab. Yes, do not attempt to drive on the highway in 4Lo. However, if it’s packed snow on the highway and there’s no sign of pavement, go ahead and use 4Hi all day. Just be aware, it doesn’t mean you can stop...
  12. Transmission Replaced

May be just normal variations in the hydraulics. Some “whistle” more than others during shifting. Are you sure it’s not a turbo noise?
  13. Another Transmission Issue, Is This Unique?

Mine was fixed under warranty but I would guess a few grand if not. To all with 10R80 issues: If anyone is “on the fence” have the service writer or foreman drive it and if they see the problem they will likely fix it (excluding any mods, tunes, etc.)
  14. Another Transmission Issue, Is This Unique?

Before my rebuild it would leave black marks in my driveway backing out at a gentle (reasonable) speed. Just “catch” and squeal almost every time. Now that my unit is fixed it’s got none of these shenanigans. I would suggest taking it back to the dealer for a further diagnosis. They may swap...
  15. Transmission Replaced

My original one, yes. My recently rebuilt one, no.
  16. Another Transmission Issue, Is This Unique?

Mine was doing this and got rebuilt under warranty. It would feel like a major “slip” between the shifts and eventually shift so hard the rear end would bang and sometimes one rear tire would squeal. Post rebuild, I have had none of this 1-2 second “stuck between gears” feeling and it shifts...
  17. Boost tow capacity (a little?)

Considering my fuel economy halves when towing a moderate sized trailer < 70% of towing capacity, I don’t want to know what full capacity does to the MPG. I bet it would be single digits especially in the mountains.
  18. Boost tow capacity (a little?)

At least in industrial robotics, a percentage of safety margin is often designed into the product and then a “safe load rating” is designated by the Mfg. Could you run on the ragged edge and tow on flat ground? Probably just fine, even in the hills. But watch those trans and coolant temps...
  19. Boost tow capacity (a little?)

From an engineering perspective, I’m sure you’d be fine (as most engineers are told to put in some “wiggle room” depending on a lot of factors such as budget, profits, longevity goals, etc. The issue is if anything were to ever come up, would towing above the rated capacity (and exceeding GCWR)...
  20. Ford Protect ESP at $25 over Dealer Cost from Granger Ford!- PAYMENT PLAN AVAILABLE!!!

Thank you Zach, I do my own maintenance (oil, spark plugs, trans fluid, etc.). Same for brakes and suspension like shocks and pads/rotors. Does this mean that as long as I keep receipts, and photos of the work, then I’ll be good in case a maintenance-related question comes up? I just...
