Installed hardware cloth over the open air intake.
Assembly grease was required to save my sanity trying to install sheet metal screws at that angle.
Note: install it over the inner openings. If it’s installed over the outer openings you have wasted your time.
Finally, I sealed the edges...
A bunch of reading and I found the cabin air intake.
Removal of plastic cowling and wiper arms was required (shut up…..). Even made a wiper arm puller from a sliding barn door hanger.
Hind sight is 20/20. If my old eyes had looked a bit closer I would have realized that the cowling was split...
First priority is locating points of ingress. Rear cabin vents and cold cabin air intake are all I can find.

Dismantled the glove box and center console looking for the source of the smell.

Further into the Center console I got the stronger the smell until I found the source under the emergency brake:

I’m on the road for work this week and got a phone call from the missus. She can’t drive the truck as something has very obviously crawled into the cabin air intake and DIED.
So my question remains: Where is the cabin air intake located?
I’m assuming it’s on the passenger side firewall...
Over he past 40-odd years of vehicle ownership I’ve used whatever is on sale that meets the spec published in that vehicles owners manual. Never had an oil related problem. My Ranger will receive the same level of care.
Finally got rid of mine. $1000 every year maintaining it. Failed inspection first year I had it…….. what?…….SOOO sorry!!!! Thought this was the Jeep Patriot forum. :wink:

Not too pretty but seems to be effective.
I have looked for the cabin air intake but no joy. The logistics of sealing the intake from inside the cabin are daunting to say the least.
