I would disagree about this. economy does matter. but you do have to understand that with any engine, you're going to lose fuel economy with a load, towing or hauling. you might be able to eke out slightly better fuel economy by getting a more aerodynamic trailer or a few other things. for me...

it's pretty well known that diesels will get better economy while towing than a gasoline engine. but there are lot of other factors at play. they certainly won't drive quite the same, and typically a small diesel is going to have a higher cost up front.

I bought a bathroom scale to check the tongue weight on my little utility trailer. cheap and easy. won't work on something big enough to max the ranger, but I could find something that would if I needed to. or, just get a ball mount with a built-in scale to tell me tongue weight.
