  1. New Puppy = New Interior Mods. Favorite Dog Car Seat Covers?

try a northern breed next time (husky, malamute, etc). ;-) I have this one in my Ranger. Works great. I usually don't put it in hammock mode. Hammock mode only comes into play for longer road trips when my terrier comes along and I want to give him a little more space. Seat Cover for Dogs |...
  2. Towing 4500 lb travel trailer up and down 7% grade for 8 miles

Whether those higher up made the final decision about it, I'm sure the techs were still fed up with dealing with so many transmissions with the wrong fluid in them. I'll bet they were equally irritated having to deal with so many different fluids.
  3. Towing 4500 lb travel trailer up and down 7% grade for 8 miles

On my 98 Ranger, a SHOP put the wrong fluid in my transmission and it did indeed cause major problems. a transmission shop wanted me to have the whole thing rebuilt when I took it to them for a 2nd opinion. I took it to the local Ford dealer for a 3rd opinion, and they're the ones that...
  4. Towing 4500 lb travel trailer up and down 7% grade for 8 miles

Oh, you'll do fine going between Old Fort and Black Mtn. I do that drive regularly, and sometimes pulling a trailer behind a Transit, which doesn't tow nearly as well as my Ranger. Keep in mind that there is some construction on that stretch. They're beefing up the center barriers, so there are...
  5. Transmission work needed at 50,000 per Ford dealer

When it comes to my own Ranger service experience, it hasn't been the techs that have been a problem. My problems are happening before it gets to them. My purchasing dealer is a royal PITA to get into their regular service dept. I've had no trouble at all with the quick lane service. But when I...
  6. The Dreaded Water in Spark Plugs (TSB 21-2147)

lol. I forgot to look until later on, after it had been dry and warm. gonna have to wait a bit for the next downpour.
  7. Cybertruck

though depending on the angle of the sun, you might get a hot spot on the ground where you could cook your food. kinda like how some low-e glass can scorch your yard, as it has done in my yard in a couple spots. I'm letting trees grow to block my mountain view because of the sun beating on that...
  8. The Dreaded Water in Spark Plugs (TSB 21-2147)

I've driven through some pretty torrential downpours and haven't had that stumble issue. Makes me wonder how gnarly that rain was. Got a good downpour yesterday while the truck was sitting in the driveway, so I'm going to take a peek at the engine bay before I roll off to work to see how my...
  9. Colorado/Canyon cap on Ranger

I've seen quite a few trucks on the road with similar shell fits. I would personally not be happy with it, but if it works for ya, rock it.
  10. The Dreaded Water in Spark Plugs (TSB 21-2147)

It's nice to have good friends. A friend of mine has a few vehicles and he let me use his old Ranger while mine was in the shop. His is a bit beat up and has some issues, but it got me where I needed to go. And gave me fond memories of my 98 Ranger 4cyl MT.
  11. The Dreaded Water in Spark Plugs (TSB 21-2147)

got my truck back today. I went ahead and had them change all 4 spark plugs so they were all the same with the same wear levels and all. and I got my FANCY FOAM COVER. The dealership did me a solid and didn't charge me for that. It's Ford's fault, anyway. The foam cover does quiet down the...
  12. Buyers remorse? MPG

I would disagree about this. economy does matter. but you do have to understand that with any engine, you're going to lose fuel economy with a load, towing or hauling. you might be able to eke out slightly better fuel economy by getting a more aerodynamic trailer or a few other things. for me...
  13. Buyers remorse? MPG

it's pretty well known that diesels will get better economy while towing than a gasoline engine. but there are lot of other factors at play. they certainly won't drive quite the same, and typically a small diesel is going to have a higher cost up front.
  14. Wheeler’s Superbump Stops Argument

    that's what she said
  15. Questions to RV Camper Types

As you do research, you'll find a lot of folks who will recommend strongly not to buy a new RV off the lot because of the big depreciation hit (bigger than with cars) and because with a used one, a whole lot of the little issues will have been addressed most likely. I'm not the biggest fan of...
  16. Our Trucks Have Issues. Looking At Others, Maybe Not So Bad

Here's a nasty recall: Toyota recalls Tundra trucks, Lexus SUVs over possible engine debris (statesman.com) I think some aspects of the Santa Cruz look better than the Maverick, but I do agree with Jalopnik on this one in general. I think a 5ft bed is about the shortest I'd be willing to go...
  17. Transmission work needed at 50,000 per Ford dealer

grumblegrumble. that sucks. the dealer where I bought mine was super grumpy when I called them about getting it in. started griping about being booked a month out. wtf? that's not helping anyone.
  18. Tow/haul Instant Weight Scale

I bought a bathroom scale to check the tongue weight on my little utility trailer. cheap and easy. won't work on something big enough to max the ranger, but I could find something that would if I needed to. or, just get a ball mount with a built-in scale to tell me tongue weight.
  19. Transmission work needed at 50,000 per Ford dealer

put that thing away before you put someone's eye out!
