Peeps wanting to tow trailers that are much safer towed with a 3/4 ton truck. Problem is, this nonsense endangers others on the road as well. The concept of allowing 50% safety factor to ensure survivability in really extenuating circumstances seems to be hard to grasp around here.
These are...
As stated, great towing ability is much more than HP and torque. As important and probably more so, is sufficient wheelbase and especially braking. Suspension that can control weight hanging on the back of the truck. Anyway, it is quite encouraging to see the Ranger get a favorable rating and as...
There is no way I would even begin to consider towing a 31' travel trailer with a Ranger. Period. There is not enough wheelbase there to make that safe in high winds or evasive maneuvers.
The numbers might be there saying you can, but that doesn't mean you should. There is no reserve level of...
Well I have found that manufacturers tend to inflate ratings somewhat, so if they rate it at 7500 that prolly means 5000 max safely. Not dissing the Ranger at all, just looking at the tiny little brakes and a 4 cylinder engine, with short wheelbase, adds up to being real conservative with weight...
OK sounds like I will have no issues pulling the fairly light load. I was used to 700 hp and 1400 ft/lbs with my dodge cummins that was pretty seriously built up, then my F250 gasser which was also pretty stout. The little Ranger has been a really good truck so far. Just did my first oil change...
In a couple months, will need to drive to FL from south TX to pick up my new technical poling skiff. Boat is 18' long, all carbon fiber, extremely light. Hull weighs 350 and boat, motor, trailer should be right around 1000 lbs total. My 2019 Ranger XLT crew cab should be able to handle that...
Hands down the best tire for this usage by far is going to be the Michelin Defender LTX-MS. I changed out the Bridgestone Dueler HT my XLT came with to the Michelin Defender because I have run this tire on a couple of other trucks for a combined 375000 miles. All diesel 3/4 or 1 ton trucks. You...
Most guys prolly dont re-gear, but really should as stock tires are around 30.5" dia and these are near 33" tall. So that is a relatively huge increase for a 4 cyl 2.3l engine and drivetrain to deal with. Also when you pull a wheel off, just look at those tiny little brakes. Think of those tiny...
Actually a heavier tire does absolutely affect mileage negatively. I have gone to 37s on my 2006 dodge cummins and seen the mileage drop from around 14 mpg to under 10 mpg. Of course this came with a full Carli 3" suspension as well. Then dropped back to 35s, and then back to 275-60-17s. Mileage...
22.4 is about as good as it is gonna get IMHO. Originally this whole ordeal was about the stock tires gumming up badly on slick muddy caliche. Then researching, found the BFG weigh 50 lbs/tire, and went straight down from there. All that bad feedback, and I just decided to go with the Michelin...

Hundreds of reviews on BFG AT KO2s in here. What is amazing to me is that around half of the reviews claim these tires just suck totally, and...
Will prolly cancel on the order for the BFG AT KO2s because they also weigh 50 pounds which will likely drop off at least a mpg if not more, and cause braking is pretty important too. I don't do a huge amount of driving off-road, mainly just on a job site and this usage would be under 2% of the...
I have the Bridgestone HT (highway tread) tires and they work fine on the street, but in almost any use but especially wet caliche like is on many job sites, they are functionally worthless. They will load up instantly and not clear out. So I ordered BF Goodrich AT KO2s in stock size. I have...
I still use the auto on/off; that is just fine. Only the daytime running lights are set to off. And the auto hi/low beam switching. That is turned off too.
Can go into the menu using steering wheel buttons and disable DRL, and auto low/high beam switching. Now if I could just disable that stupid auto off/on the same way that would be awesome.
Extremely comfortable and great quality. Very happy with my Katzkin. A little touch of class I think. Colors: Lapis (darker gray) with silver inset panels, silver thread. I wanted to match the silver exterior and interior pieces, and maintain a slightly understated classical appearance.
I will get some pictures up this weekend. I should have already done it by now. Slacking obviously... If I had the cloth seats, I would be intensely interested in seeing some pictures of the Katzkins. They are super nice. Will post some up ASAP.
