  1. Known Issues and Their Solutions for the 2019+ Ford Ranger

In my other thread that was closed, I went to a Ford dealer that sells Ford and Lincoln, and almost every Lincoln they had (8 of 12) has some very obvious cosmetic defect or alignment issue. I wish makers would stop their 1,000 cars daily and slow down a bit to get back better quality.
  2. 2019 Ranger MPGs

Does MPG really mean anything? Why they don't make it a check-engine light when the ECU detects something really bad with MPG's? As I mentioned before, trying to compare is fruitless. Put gas in and drive it.
  3. Known Issues and Their Solutions for the 2019+ Ford Ranger

And this form-fit issue carries over into the Lincoln line too!
  4. 2019 Ranger MPGs

But your 80/70/60mph MPG's was on a 100mi flat drive on hwy, yes? You kinda have to do the same hwy and 100mi to compare, etc. The next best thing would be a "dyno" setup where wheel load would be indicative of the vehicle drag at speed. Recall that wind drag has V^2 in it, but you can...
  5. 2019 Ranger MPGs

Most likely it's related to engine RPM and not actual speed. Engine Eff, especially w/ forced air, will have a distinct max Eff based on the engine components used (cam, stroke, type of forced air, etc). In other words, your engine is running way more efficient at your 60mph RPM vs your 80mph...
  6. 2019 Ranger MPGs

Do the MPG's vary much between say 87 vs 93 octane gas?
  7. 2019 Ranger MPGs

I take the scientific approach. So, what i was saying was, the "diff" being calculated in excel sheet can easily be accounted for by margin of error. There are a few variables that can introduce that error into the math (do you account for variances in fuel mixes?). There's a ton of error in...
  8. 2019 Ranger MPGs

So over say 1,000gal used (~20kmi) the err is 1,000mi, or ~5%. Is that significant in context of "MPG's" ? In other words, if the truck spec is 20/24 then with error (if the math is all 100% accurate) it can be 19-21city, 22.8-25.2hwy. Row #14, if it's $2.50/gal and 17gal are pumped in, how...
  9. 2019 Ranger MPGs

Why? The ECU should be calculating using a fuel volume & miles driven, no? Or if it does not have a fuel volume sensor then there's plenty of ways to do it using throttle position and/or PWM % on the injectors. But let me ask from the other angle, with the hand calculations has this proven the...
  10. Is this true? MUST finish drain and refill in 10 mins or RISK involved

If you quickly fill the center of the filter up with oil and let that soak in for a few min, you can screw it on w/o it spilling out, and a few min after that the oil will start to fill back into the filter hole on engine.
  11. Is this true? MUST finish drain and refill in 10 mins or RISK involved

Ever take apart an engine that's been sitting for 6mo or 1yr? I have, and there's still oil on the bearings when taking the caps off. I am not sure where this notion of all oil disappears if the oil it left to "drain down". When air gets into the oil paths then there will be a lack of oil...
  12. 2019 Ranger MPGs

Best MPG's will be found when the ambient air temp is right in the middle of winter low and summer highs. Engines run highest Ef with colder temps, but frictional losses will take net lower. Engines will run lowest Ef with hotter temps, but that will offset the lower frictional losses and thus...
  13. 2019 Ranger MPGs

I would argue that the weight is not significant factor when it comes to the standards used to measure mpg's. Aerodynamics is significant, and perhaps contact road friction. 1985 S10 and Ranger don't have significant diff in either of those two areas. The emissions argument is both relevant and...
  14. How bad is the open diff in the snow?

So in essence this is the same thing as throwing 200lbs of sand bags in the bed of the 2x ? Would skinnier tires make a diff? Going to a skinnier tire means more surface psi, more surface psi means more friction (and ability of tread to cut).
  15. Please help me - Thinking of getting a Ranger

Keep reading threads here. Plenty of likes and dislikes to read about, then you have to see which ones fit your asks. Uncomfortable and/or sagging seats is a popular topic. Is resale value a concern for you?
  16. Uncomfortable

Ergonomics is not always a good fit for everyone. If you like the truck but hate the seats, find a good local automotive upholstery shop and see if they can rebuild your seat to fit your ergonomics better. It's extra cost, but well worth it if you really like the truck.
  17. 2019 Ranger MPGs

Use the highest octane gas you can, and go +3-5psi (cold) higher in tires than door label. It's a small motor with a small turbo, and it's still not making good power until way out in RPM's. To get really good mpg's you need to accelerate slowly and cruise w/o AC on. Side note - some tires will...
  18. How bad is the open diff in the snow?

What makes a 4x4 give you longer stopping distance? Driving slow like a snail is not the control part, so yeah, agree with you, drive slowly regardless of 2x or 4x.
  19. Boost numbers.

Anything above 2PR (+14.696psi) for a OEM daily driver, without issues, is a good design. OEM WRX's are about the same too. 2PR must be the max # they are willing to go within their warranty. In general though, boosted engines will not live as long as NA engines. My Lexus NA v8 is approaching...
  20. Is this true? MUST finish drain and refill in 10 mins or RISK involved

This issue appears to be normal for Ford's DuraTorq diesel engines !! No self priming pump !! As the comments on the video say, very dumb design. How could you prime the pump if it fully drained out? I guess Ford just tells everyone to "move fast" when changing the filter?
