  1. 11 MPG over 100+ Miles in 4WD on White Rim Trail, Canyonlands Utah

You have to secure a permit and designate campsites, which you cannot stray from. There’s a quota for how many permits each day. Online reservations open months in advance and are immediately booked, like trying to buy a Taylor Swift ticket. You can’t just go and camp wherever. This is a good...
  2. 11 MPG over 100+ Miles in 4WD on White Rim Trail, Canyonlands Utah

Wow, I wonder what the deal was on my end then? My trip was end of October, and it was low 30's at night, morning. Low 60's during the day at the warmest. We did a lot of stopping, looking, photos. We did the trip clockwise. My highway MPGs were what I expect, 16 at worse poking around town, 18...
  3. Headlights on too long

Huh.. do you have them set on 'auto?' I thought if you turn your headlights to 'on' they stay on until the battery dies or you start your car again, all the while getting warning beeps when you turn off the ignition. Can you leave the headlights on, and have them turn off after a moment or two...
  4. Do you regret your bed cap?

I need dry storage for recreating, so my Snugtop Rebel does that. Plus, I have Yakima rails on it, on which I mount Rhino Rack cross bars. On those, goes either a Yakima Skybox 12 or kayak carriers. We camp and travel to camp a lot. While part of me considered - and considers - a pop up camper...
  5. 11 MPG over 100+ Miles in 4WD on White Rim Trail, Canyonlands Utah

I'll share my surprising finding after completing the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands, Utah. I averaged a very low 11 MPG for this trip. Same truck, with all my gear and supplies, I was getting between 16 and 22 MPG between Washington State and Utah in 2WD. White Rim Trail is mostly bumpy, rocky...
  6. 2" Rear Sag with Full Camping Loadout, After Suspension Lift. Further Modify Rear Leaf Springs?

Want to get the communities take and advice on addressing rear sag with full camp gear loadout. In short, my rear squats 2" when fully loaded with typical week+ camping gear. This provides a reverse 1" rake, or squat. I've got Icon multileaf springs on the rear, which I've configured as Option...
  7. New Tire Reccomendations!

Maybe, though they had my preferred choice before my suspension lift accommodated taller - 255/75/17, a 32” quasi skinny tire, clears stock height Rangers. Now that I have a 3” lift in the front and 1” in the rear, via Eibach shocks and Icon multileaf rear springs, I could easily fit 255/80/17...
  8. New Tire Reccomendations!

I’ve got the same size XTs in a C load, they’ve done great in Pac NW desert and western mountain offroad conditions. I’ll be driving from Washington to Utah, 2 weeks in Canyonlands and San Rafael Swell. Permits for White Rim Trail. These tires are lighter weight than their contemporaries, which...
  9. PSA: LoStar Hitch Skid Doesn’t Fit Factory Hitch

Yeah, it might. I installed it and looked from every angle, trying to imagine descending/dropping off a ledge step. Would this catch first and help push away from direct contact with my bumper? I can't say for certain. It does not offer a contact point directly below the hitch, but laterally out...
  10. PSA: LoStar Hitch Skid Doesn’t Fit Factory Hitch

I returned that LoStar skid and ordered an even cheaper hitch skid. Doesn’t extend below the hitch, but this should push me out of the way descending a step ledge, rather than my bumper. You can pay $50+ for one that says ‘Curt’ on it, I imagine these come out of the same factory and get...
  11. PSA: LoStar Hitch Skid Doesn’t Fit Factory Hitch

I looked those little ones, do the actually give you more skid than the hitch itself? Doesn’t really go much further out or down, but I have no first hand knowledge.
  12. PSA: LoStar Hitch Skid Doesn’t Fit Factory Hitch

Definitely wouldn’t fit, the bottom wouldn’t clear those down angled wings. You need around a 3” gap from skid bottom to receiver bottom to account for those wings.
  13. PSA: LoStar Hitch Skid Doesn’t Fit Factory Hitch

Yeah, I could try those things or return the skid to Amazon. I do not have the tools to bend the skid plate, its thick steel. To bend the hitch ‘chain wings’ or whatever those are called would take a sledge hammer, hammering upwards. Rather not. From this purchase experience, I’m starting to...
  14. PSA: LoStar Hitch Skid Doesn’t Fit Factory Hitch

This hitch skid plate, https://a.co/d/dTndMUz Does not clear those two downward angled ‘wings’ below the receiver part of the factory hitch. Too bad, its a fairly inexpensive armor to reduce bumper damage coming off steps/shelfs or other departure obstacles. Hoping the hitch itself, if dragged...
  15. DIY Bed mounts and Storage.

Exactly the sort of thing I wish we saw more of on this forum. Awesome! I’ve long pondered an inner frame around the roof perimeter like how you’ve done it. Side rail mounts above wheel wells, too. Hat’s off sir!
  16. OVS expedition cap

My Snugtop with Yakima rails and windoors was $4k. Had that GFC topper-only option been available (it wasn’t at the time) it would’ve directly competed price wise and I would’ve strongly considered it, probably would’ve bought it. I agree the price is not outrageous when compared to other...
  17. 5100 too stiff on rear?

While I can't empirically claim benefit of Eibach shocks (I added them along Icon multileafs), my suspension setup is 1) noticeably improved onroad and off, and 2) not the slightest bit more harsh than before, with stock FX4. Few have had both Bilstein and Eibach to compare directly, but...
  18. 5g vs. 6g comparison

We can safely presume any net decrease in downward hood slope has a corresponding decrease in # feet of ground or near-ground visibility. Major news channel, might’ve been CBS 60 Min, showed this problem. It was shocking how far out a younger child sized person (4-5’ tall) is completely unseen...
