So after putting a Customer Care ticket into Ford due to the unusual break of the tensioner, it seems Ford could care less. If you are a Ford fan that will own a Ford come Hell or High water, then congrats and this is posting is not for you, but if you are a Ford owner that is tired of...
So basically you are saying it was very poor design by the Ford engineers. Knowing that this is a part that has a significant amount of force put on it, it should have been attached to something far stronger and something that would not cause the customer to have to replace the front timing...
This was not a tensioner pully issue, but a poor quality bracket issue. The pully, even after being snapped off, spun freely and no binding. The belts had zero wear on them and neither the serpentine or alternator belt were broke. The serpentine belt was kinked from being wrapped around the fan...
I agree. It is because of Ford's response to issues like this, which should NEVER happen, that are going to push people away and into their competitors. I am seriously thinking of trading mine in for a Toyota Tacoma as well. Plus once people leave the Ford brand due to issues like this, they do...
Agree. The issue on my Ranger is most likely something that is very rare, for as many as they have produced, but it is nice to have a forum to let Ranger owners know. Maybe future Ranger builds will redesign the tensioner being a part of the timing chain cover, so If it does brake it does not...
The only reason I made this post was to see how many Ford Ranger owners have experienced this exact same issue with the belt tensioner bracket snapping off. From what I seen so far it is not extremely common, but common enough and eerily breaking off in the exact same place and manner to make...
Not yet. It was taking time to get all the parts in, plus being Christmas week it is taking longer than normal. The Service tech has not said how long it is actually going to take to complete the repair, but it is at least going to cost $4k. I love my Ranger, but between transmission being very...
Have you EVER owned a Ford before, because EVERY Ford that I have owned 2016 Ford F150 had a transmission issue and cost a fortune just to replace the sparkplugs that would break off in the engine or a $1000 to just replace the leaking exhaust manifolds, so you can say all you want about Toyota...
Not sure what engineer decided to add the belt Tensioner pully mount bracket to the front Chain belt cover, but that was not a good decision for Ford Ranger owners. A very costly mistake.
It could be due to bad design and still be a bad casting. If you look at the photos I took and photos of other's in this thread that had the same issue, you would see the break is identical. you could literally take the belt tensioner bracket that broke off and put in against where it broke on...
My truck is still at Ford Service, so I do not have access to the door to see the actual build date. It is going to take them a few weeks to fix it. At least 4 days for the parts to get in and of course it happens in the primary week of Christmas. This is a present I did Not want.
