I have tried several insurance companies for homeowners insurance because it is a mobile home with a 15x45 addition. All were denied because the mobile home is not movable. Any suggestions will be appreciated….Thanks

Doc, Being a Vet have you tried USAA?

I have used Travelers for the past 8 years and they've been really good to deal with . I know many insurance companies have pulled out of FL because of all the storms and claims they've had to pay out. There were several tornados here in AR back in May and the rates here have gone up since. Also many companies have now pulled out which is increasing rates. It's kind of BS because they're insurance companies and this is what they're supposed to be there for....Protection and claims! :curse:

If it's a mobile home that's not mobile anymore, isn't it just a regular home now ? Or if the axles are still under there, argue that it is still mobile if need be ... I certainly hate my insurance company (state farm ) , have had them for 30 years and every single interaction has been a pain...

It seems to me if you have a certificate of occupancy for the addition it would be insured as a home without the mobil classification. Insurance companies in Florida need to be regulated with all the horror stories I have heard lately. I would call every agency in the area to see how they handle this because you definitely not the only one in a situation like this.

When I got my first place back in MA it was a mobile home in a small park. I remember there were very few choices for insurance companies even back then. You had to make sure the wheels were off of them and they were all strapped down to piers that were so many feet into the ground.

I think a lot of companies have become stricter on their policies with all the storms and claims the past few years, especially in FL. Mobile homes have always been a higher risk for Insurance claims due to the way they are/were built. I don't think they fall under the same hurricane codes especially the older ones making them even more of a risk. But these companies are in the business of providing insurance and know the risk and they shouldn't be able to just all leave a state. You take the good with the bad in business and they rake in million (or more) during the years when there are little claims.

Our first home was also a mobile home in a park with a similar addition. We got a homeowners policy the same as a house with a declared value which was less then a house at a reduced rate. Here in NY our last homeowner bill almost doubled with the insurance amount doubling due to inflated rebuild costs. We checked around and all companies did the same thing. I think they all secretly work together and raise rates together. Old people that haven't had a claim in the 55 years they have been insured should get discounts.

I got insurance on my cabin which is up on blocks, they didn't ask anything about it being mobile or not. It was also State Farm. But when a branch fell and busted a solar panel they didn't cover it so I canceled. They tried to argue that I should have coverage for 90 acres of empty land because "someone could fall or be injured on the property". The guy even tried to imply that someone could kidnap some girl take her into the woods and rape her on my property and I need insurance because of that. Are you kidding me. Now I just keep the money I'd be giving away to them and if I need it I'll use it.

Maybe see how your County assessor has the home and addition labeled as and see if that helps with the Insurance company. Sadly mobile homes have a title and a vin # so that might be a sticking point in the Insurance co favor. I had to do some vin checks on mobile homes while on the SO. Some took the tongue off and the vin was a real pita to find. Hey do you have any trailer courts anywhere near you that you could call the office and ask what most owners use? If it's a rental I don't know if renters Insurance would be required, maybe the rent $ included Insurance via a blanket policy the park may have?

When I was a kid we had a cabin and dad couldn't get a policy on it because it was unoccupied most of the year. He was able to put a rider on the homeowners policy that covered vandalism, theft, and liability when we visited. He gave hunting rights to a local club that covered liability for the property when empty on a umbrella policy they had for land use. You should check with local hunting clubs.
