Wiring PL 9772 remote unlock accessory to ARE CX topper

So I installed a new (to me) ARE CX on my Ranger and am running into trouble getting the Pop and Lock PL 9772 rear hatch door unlocker to work with my key fob. I installed the kit, wired it up, pretty nicely in my opinion, go to hit lock or unlock on the fob, and the actuator does nothing. Rest of the truck locks just fine. I'm getting voltage spikes at the contacts feeding the actuator, so I'm confident I have it wired properly...

Does anyone have experience with these? Is there a minimum current needed for the actuator to function or something?

Cancel that, don't ever use those little wire taps they provide with kits like this, they suck.
