Installed mine yesterday. The truck only has 20K on it so I reused the gasket and left the original filter. The only pain (literally) was the friggin stupid dipstick. Ended up using a welding glove to reach up between the catalyst and the trasnmission to make sure the fluid was up to spec.
The lights are rated for under hood use by KC. I drove the truck most of yesterday and checked them when I got home. The lights were warm but not so hot that I couldn't keep my hand on them. Definitely something to watch.
Installed some lights under the hood of my 22 Tremor. Started by removing the insulation panel to expose the underside of the hood. Two of the holes that the plastic rivets go into are perfect for mounting the lights. I used these lights...
The light kit with the harness is not cheap but it comes with the mating connectors and is plenty long to reach the engine bay.
The brackets are just mild steel and simple. By the time you source the material, fab and paint something the cost of buying them is well worth it.

I'm running KC backup lights mounted under the bumper on my Tremor. They also have a simple bracket that bolts to the bumper mount. I took some quick pictures

FWIW this is how I'm allocating mine.
Switch 3 - Diode Dynamics 6" rectangular, amber fog lights mounted in the lower grill with their brackets. This switch is also wired to "Raptor" amber grill lights. I use this to activate "amber, notice me mode" in Michigan white out winters.
