It attaches with tape that touches all edges. There are no open areas. I put it on myself. It's an easy install. I like the textured finish and the fact that is has that bump on it to actually deflect stuff. Other deflectors are just protecting the front edge, this one can actually deflect stuff...

Got an XLT FX2 in mid Dec and have been doing a few mods on it (Raptor grill, bed liner, aeroskin 2.0 deflector, Rocky Mount integrated bed mount for my bikes and Go Rhino RB10 running boards). Love this truck. I've had a taco in the past, Ranger is a much better value.
