Just ordered black Sumo Springs for my truck and am about to order Eibach rear shocks for it as well. The ride quality has been horrible since new and since I added a topper and drawer system to the bed its even worse. Anyone have this combination? I'm worried the Sumo Springs will just cancel...
All finished up, have other projects to move on too so kinda had to rush to the end. Got the rubber all glued down on the top and the aluminum trim on the edge. Cut the extra rubber to line the drawer bottom.
Got the other hatch made and the big piece of rubber cut and glued down. Just gotta do the sides and the other two pieces of aluminum trim and this project will be all wrapped up.
Nearing the finish line, top made and one side cover made and installed. Sprayed some silicone spray on the slides and exposed wood and the drawers open and close effortlessly. Not worried about changing out the vinyl slides at all now.
That same kit is almost $200 in Canada unfortunately. I may get some at some point for it but for now I think the rubber mat will work well enough on top.
I've seen so many 1/2 ton trucks with those giant old campers in the bed, never good when your headlights are signaling aircraft and your hitch receiver is acting as a wheelie bar on the big bumps.
Nothing too fancy, I don't love the giant chrome T-handles but they make it so you unlock it and slide it out in one smooth motion rather than having a latch and a secondary pull handle. Lights are tempting and I really like the idea of the ones underneath the drawers. I don't think I need any...
Weight is definitely a concern, I bought five sheets of .75" Plywood. One sheet was Birch for the drawers which is around 50 pounds worse case. The rest I assume about 40 pounds a sheet. I'm gonna use about 85% of it by the end so I'm guessing somewhere between 150-200 pounds for the whole...
Got some more done, bottom and sides all painted. Took it all apart and reassembled it in the truck in about 30 minutes. Only one screw that didn't pull tight so much better than I was expecting.
Other latch finished and both boxed in so stuff in the drawers won't interfere with the mechanism. All that's left now is paint, assembly into the truck and make the top and hatches.
I have aluminum angle I was gonna trim around them with but you've got me thinking lol, was kinda wondering what it would look like if I scorched them with a torch and stained/sealed them with a dark stain/poly combo.
Got the little slides attached to the sides of the box and the back of the drawer. Attached the drawer faces, now onto the latch mechanism. Am copying a YouTube video with the slide setup and latch so not my design.
