I used us cargo L-track on my f350 and works great I used 1/8 x 2 steel strap behind it 1/4 20 nuts and bolts. so it didn't pull throw was a P.I.A, did by myself .... or use aluminum strap . just cut to fit any where it will lay flat to surface of bed ..will look to post pics.
when I lived in NJ we I used WD40 that seemed to work for us
and my Mom lived Maine and we would do the same there good luck hope this helps ..
