I actually fixed this myself. in the picture the half paper clip slot has a spring inside it, that spring had slid off. I was able to slide a knife blade in and put it back on.

Answer to their problem is given, does not mean answer to my problem was given. We have not had trouble closing it, ours is not opening.

Are you saying you had to push tailgate AND pull the latch? We started having the issue this week. We took the cover off and if we pull the cables it will open. it seems like the lever is not engaged correctly

Has anyone had this issue and fixed it? If we take the cover of tailgate we can pull the 2 rods to make it open. The latch does not work to get it to open. It seems as if the white label should fit on the lever above it, but don't want to force the issue.
