Yes it is a common practice that ford uses on these trucks. Check the label inside the drivers door jam and it will show the size they put under your truck. My Lariat Sport has 17” on the ground and a 16” spare. I looked up the two tire sizes and they are the same diameter. Bridgestone 225/65R17...

With my 21 Lariet Screw there is 39 1/2” from closed tailgate to cover with 3 panels folded back. With the 4 th stood up there is 52 1/2”.

I also have the HF650M cover. Installed Jan. of this year and I’m very happy with it.
