No inspections where I live, and tint violations are rarely enforced unless it’s super dark. 35% Is technically the darkest you can go if you have tint on all windows.

Nice to know I’m not crazy! I’ve smelled it a few times too. Has always been near the rear wheel on the drivers’ side. 100% a hot/burnt electrical smell.
