Yep, mine has been making similar noises since day 1. Still shifts smoothly, and it's never a concerning noise, so I attribute it to the 10r80 personality.
This is similar to how I initially had my MXT275 mounted, but I relocated it to the passenger side of the center console (closer to glove box) because I found it super hard to hear when inside of the center console storage with the full tray covering it.
This last weekend on a trail I regularly drive on to get to a hot spring. Wasn't paying enough attention and the bank had changed at the stream crossing due to the spring melt. Just glad I didn't bash my fog light I installed the previous day ?

I agree about the groceries, it can get super awkward with another vehicle parked next to you. Too bad the doors don't open to full ~160-180 degrees instead of 90.
