Not sure if this will help but I have smart cap with decked installed. For the wiring I used LEER part # 300200, also # 300201. It was plug and play and provided complete isolation for third brake light and LED lighting, and did not cause any issues with warning systems.

Selectable Locker next best thing to having 4WD. On when you need it, off for otherwise. Had that setup on other 2WD trucks and loved it. Great in the dirt and sand, definitely off on ice or towing. Option is inexpensive compared to the aftermarket.

You are correct on the debris. Had this very scenario on a DANA 60 I built. Pinion gear failure, broken tooth stuck between the ring and housing. Would not go forward, just in reverse with intense grinding noise. Glad it is handled for you under warranty.
