    Some tri-folds don't flip up at the end, but his pics show that his flips vertical and any of them need to contact something to support it.     Not sure about the tri-folds for the Ranger, but all the Bakflip style tri-folds I've seen have a rubber gasket like piece run across this surface to prevent the aluminum from contacting the trucks paint/window when fully open. Definitely worth adding for some peace of mind! Hope it helps...
