I am actually originally from central IL and I do plan on visiting this summer at some point (my father is getting up there in years and pretty sick). I had planned on flying, but suppose I could try to drive, but probably wouldn't be free anymore.

The latches on my Smartcap did initially have problems with getting gunked up in winter months. I installed some aftermarket covers for them and occasionally hit them with some lubricant and that keeps them working great.
