No it isn't, but you will find several sites that mention it. The only reason for those covers is it looks better. They do hold in heat and heat is bad for any engine, it's really just common sense. Many people just remove them

Dealer battery disappointment
That's been my experience at any dealer any make I've ever been to. I've only gone to dealer for warranty service.
