I really miss George Carlin.....
Me too. Besides being funny he was really good at seeing/telling what was going to happen. Plus I love how he always told it like it is. He'd probably be ostracized by most today though.

The first thing I did when I got both my '19 & '23 was turn off the DRL's. Some will argue they're good and others can see you better but I fell the same as you and turn them off. Here, you could be lit up like Sids Ranger and they still wouldn't see you. lol
Unfortunately, they're mandated by law here in Ontario, otherwise I would absolutely turn them off.

You know, I've seriously thought of getting a sign like that before. It would have to be able to alternate between a few messages. One that I could definitely use around here is "Turn on your d@mn lights!"; there's too many idiots in Ontario that see the faint gleam from their DRLs in front of them, and think that means that they have a full lighting package turned on - instead, they're running around in the dark and/or blowing snow with no tail lights on at all. My other "fantasy" is to get a super-bright LED light bar mounted to the front, and then just come up behind them and turn it on full. "Oh, did I blind you? I didn't see any tail lights, so I didn't know that anyone was there." Unfortunately, that would probably get me into more trouble than it's worth....
It always amazes me how many drive without their lights on. Whether it's early morning or just past sunset I see it all the time here. Almost every newer model has the auto feature which I guess goes back to my stupid meme that they can't even figure that out. ?‍♂
It's modern LCD displays that are to blame. Between their interior display being lit and the DRLs they think the lights are on. Odd thing is most of these vehicles probably have an "auto" setting.

Gone are the days where one glance at your speedometer would tell you your lights were off.
