I figure I'd start a "build" page here since despite my best efforts, I am adding more to this truck than the adult in me knows better than doing....
I've had my truck for 6 months now, which is a 2022 XL STX Supercab in Cactus Gray. I bought this truck to replace my Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD for daily and tow duties (which had replaced my 2001.5 Cummins), however, it hasn't completely worked out that way. I've continued to use the Jeep because it keeps kicking along, now at 240k miles, towing cars, SxS's, and more recently a tractor, regularly, as well as pulling trees down and stumps out of the ground... It appears I'm comfortable with the damn thing. That said, the truck hasn't seen a lot of use mostly because the dirty work I am doing is easier for me when it's not a new vehicle.
Ultimately, this will be a street and tow truck. Since I can't leave anything alone, I will still modify the truck and track it here!
Getting on, here are pictures the day I picked it up from Granger, in Iowa after a 6 month wait:
Almost home:
Home (we moved into this house weeks prior):
The RZR actually matches pretty well
First part I added, I don't have a picture of... The ignition key trim seemed like a must. I got plain black... But right after that, I had the bed coated in Line-X Premium (and a damper... <insertstupiddamperjokehere>):
And added the Ford toolbox. It was like $12 with my Ford points:
Next was a Bakflip cover:
I'm getting older, so I wanted to see if the engine cover helped with noise reduction. It does enough to make me not regret the purchase and I got it before the price hike.
After driving it a bit, my wife struggled to get in and out of the truck, so even though I don't like the look of runner boards, I picked up some of the slimmest ones I could after some research on these forum. Amazon to the rescue:
Now to some of the more interesting parts. Before I even had the truck, I had already purchased Morimoto headlights, Diode Dynamics fog lights, and a Mountune intercooler.
Removal of the stockers:
Morimoto's installed... Also put in red tow hooks so I could use an actual FX4 skip plate:
Diode Dynamics fog lights installed w/ fresh clear bra:
I'll have to do an alignment and get some better shots, but a quick alignment with tape from the stock halogens:
I have also replaced the license plate lights and side markers with LED's (I'll do the high mount lights when I do the brake controller):
Mountune intercooler installed. I did have to purchase a few things to make this an nicer install. I purchased some expandable 1.5" foam tape for the bottom of the intercooler (like stock), longer screws for the upper plastic shroud, and PROPER T-bolt clamps. They include crappy worm-gear clamps... This is where I currently am, waiting on the clamps to arrive. I have no plans to do an intake or exhaust. The intake bang-for-buck is very low and I don't want any noise from an exhaust... I've never really liked loud cars, as even my toy and track cars are all pretty quiet.
Prior to these parts and immediately after hitting 1,000 miles (just to make sure everything works as it should), I did start taking logs as well as did some transmission tuning. I could not stand the lugging of constant too high of a gear, and I wanted to firm up the shifts a bit. I have only tuned the transmission at this point:
Before/After WOT shifting:
That catches it up pretty well so far. I still have a pretty good bin of parts to install, so I will keep it all updated here.
