I pulled my spare down because I’m going to mount it in my bed like my old F-150 and it’s way nicer than my stock steelies, I just thought it was funny

Trucks coming along, so far I’ve added a hitch, brake controller, 7 way plug, SVC leveling collars, homemade chase rack with lights, 16” aluminum wheels 0 offset, now I’m mounting the spare in the bed. Really want some nice BFG K02 tires but they aren’t in the budget at the moment. It’s nice having access to my old mans shop, had to throw a pic in there lol

A painted aluminum wheel is much better looking than a steel alloy

Aside from the looks....

PSA: Fact is if you run that smaller diameter spare tire in conjunction with your large diameter other tires you can damage the gears in the differential / transfer case and the 4x4 traction control system may not work correctly.

But don't take my word for it, it states such in your owners manual.

Did your truck come with the plastic bed rail protector and you removed them to install the headache rack?

Yes I’m aware thanks. Right now they are all the same size and when I get new tires I will get 5. I finished the spare mount just need to paint it

Ya the plastic toppers had to go. Bed rails make strapping things down easy.

It is a Temporary 50 mile spare for you to drive to the nearest tire store. The diff is an open diff unless you lock it, okay to drive 50 miles. If you are going to frequent farther out places then you need a exact match additional tire and wheel. I also have a pump, plugs and a tire inflator can on hand. I am not beholden to the EPA and dont care if my truck gets ,1 MPG less.

Same, I carry a good plug kit and plan on installing a Viair on board air system underneath where the spare tire was. Personally I don’t see why you couldn’t run the spare more than 50 miles if you had to, Looks like a good tire

Just took a look at mine, it's a 17" steelie with a Hancook Dynapro ATM 265/65/17.

Nowhere on it is marked "Temporary use only".

I have an FX4 XLT.

You've got 17 inch wheels, right? I guess we found the exact match. :)

265/60/18 (18") on the rest of the truck. So the tire OD is the same, but the wheel is smaller.

I have the black and silver spoked wheels.

I'm wondering what makes it a 50 MPH wheel and tire? The sticker says 50 MPH but it's a Dynapro HT 255/70R16. Is it a smaller outside diameter than the other tires and might damage the drivetrain? Ford advertises that the Ranger has a full size spare which means to me that you should be able to drive it at normal speeds until you can repair the flat.

My Lariat has Dynapro ATM 265/60R18 tires with a steel wheel Dynapro ATM 265/65R17 spare that is very close to the same running diameter per the specs. I don't remember seeing a sticker on it limiting the speed but I guess I'll let it down again and check. I should check the pressure anyway.

Is it possible that the spare may not be balanced properly and the safest way to avoid liability is to just say "Not for above 50mph" ?

I'm imagining someone slapping it on, trucking at 90mph, rolling, and then suing FORD because the tire didn't say "Stay safely below 50!"
