The Ranger's Trailer Tow Package has this description:

The Trailer Tow Package increases the Ranger towing rating and includes hitch receiver and 4/7-pin connector.

The 7 pin blade connector includes reversing (backup lights) to control current to block surge brakes when reversing. This wire should be purple in color. It sounds like your Ranger does not have a 7 pin blade connector. Only speculation on my part, but that is more likely because your Ranger does not have the factory Trailer Tow Package as opposed to it being an XL.

I think you are right I do not have the tow package. The truck is set up to tow up to 3500 pounds on the bumper My two boats are well within the weight restriction, but a ball on the bumper is too high. My small boat I could just lift up to the ball. the larger boat I can not lift the trailer.
Do you know what all comes with the tow package? I was thinking of adding a transmission cooler. I thought I would wait and see how it does towing my larger boat.

Just a small utility trailer here, it had maybe 400-500lbs of yard waste in it before the picture. Not nearly enough to even tell it was there!

We'll be towing our 16' Scamp fiberglass camper with our Ranger. Loaded weights run between 2500-3000 lbs with a GVWR of 3500 lbs. Hoping the Ranger tows it well, since it has more power and torque than the 4.7 V-8 Dodge Dakota we have. (Dakota shown in the picture, just picked up our Ranger this morning, also silver. :)

Added a photo of the Ranger hooked up to the Scamp. I'll want to put 1,000 miles on the Ranger as recommended in the manual before I start towing with it though. :)

I haul race bikes to the track, dirt bikes to the trails, parts bikes to my garage, unwanted bikes to get rid of, whatever man, I HAWL BIKES! I'm a two wheels for life guy that loves getting a knee down. My old 4 cylinder fwd Escape kinda chugged a bit hauling a full trailer of bikes but with my Ranger I'm not even going to know it's back there.

Note to self: can fit extra bike in bed!

Bud, this thread has some very good information that may answer your questions:

I know this is thread is more for bed usage, and I do put tools and extra parts in there but I’ve already towed the race car and a project truck home. This truck tows better than my old 98’ f150 with a 4.6 v8 (and has more power/tow rating). I’m sure I’m going to get some crap for towing the F-250...yes it was over weight, but it towed it like a champ. I can barely feel the Mustang and trailer when I tow it (~5000 lbs). Side note, I so badly want to level my truck, but when you actually use it for what it’s intended you understand why it has the rake. For now I’m resisting the urge.

Hi Carl,

I can never endorse towing beyond recommendations, but you can see why it is Build Ford Tough!

in my defense, I was very cautious. I did not exceed 50 MPH, stopped a few times to check everything, had my trailer brakes calibrated properly and had air pressures on point. But I wouldn’t do it again. It was prob 9500lbs if I had to guess with the trailer.

I got a killer deal on the f250 and couldn’t pass it up. It had a blown out spark plug so I couldn’t drive it. Otherwise I would have towed the ranger home with it. I had it running 30 min after I got home. But needed access to my tools to do that.

Towing the Mustang around is really the main reason I bought this truck. It’s not registered for street use anymore.

I don’t know if I would go that far. But it definitely makes it less comfortable to drive when it’s loaded down.
What about a level and air bags in the rear? Gives you the stance AND more consistent ride.

move considered that, and it might be the way I can justify it. But it adds about 400-500 bucks to a level lob lol.
