I think you'll find when you drop the front you'll find your stability problems will be a thing of the past. Photo shows too much height...lower ball mount will cure it.

OK we needed to be sure we had extra room and a means to host my Sis in law who's moving out soon to stay at our current small place till we all find a larger home to share, so I am buying this Surveyor to help give her some space until then, and then it'll be a nice getaway unit for the missus, doggy and me in the future. Getting a Husky distribution hitch with it and airlifts are already on the Ranger. Reeally comfy upgraded mattress! Will add more solar and batteries, maybe lithium, later. looking forward to it!

like the wood inside, interesting floor plan. how did you manage 16.5 mpgs, some guys don't get that without towing anything.

Funny enough Sis is moving out from the Springs! Missus on the way there now. Cruise control, proper tire pressure, long flat I-5 stretches in Oregon and tail winds are your friends! :) Often got 14 + when I was well over 60mph. Small 20 foot trailer and that one was slightly taller than the one we're getting. Previous trailers was not full 8 foot wide so maybe trade off there. Was getting 27 mpg on the way home empty. I do have a hard Ford folding bed cover, which I think helps, despite Myth Busters episode.

Fun thing you can't tell by the 2 TVs on the pics is there is a flip around swivel mount for a smaller TV which is what we plan to get a 12 volter for later. I let go of the 2 TVs for the hitch in the swap.

I’ve been towing around this anchor over the last year. The trailer with truck weighs at 6900 and the combined weight is right at 12300 so it’s right on the edge. The truck pulls the trailer perfectly fine with my only issues being the 10 mpg I get, and I had to replace the 2 piece driveshaft because it would vibrate real bad while accelerating loaded

We enjoy towing junk but stay far below max.

OK here's my new to me 2012 Forest River Surveyor SP 220. 4300 lbs empty 7400 GVR. Got a distribution hitch with it. Towed home in a windy storm. Just about as big as I want to haul with the Ranger but it handled it well. Took a picture of that brilliant Japanese maple the day before, all the leaves were still there!

I just finished a week towing my 23 Grand Design 17MKE. Guessing about 5500lbs loaded with empty tanks and everything. 40mph head wind on I84 resulted in 7.5mpg. During 55 to 60 mph areas with no wind, best was 12.5. Truck handled it fine with sufficient power and sway control.

12.5 mpg is good mpg for your rig. As you found out, it's not so much the weight but that big flat front that has a direct influence on mileage.
We tow a larger/heavier rig, but our mileage is in same ballpark as yours. Sweet spot runs around 60-65 mph, and on flats with no wind, will get 11-12 mpg. Hills/mountains/wind...mpg goes down down down.
Safe travels in your rig.

My last tow i was overweight on cargo weight. These trucks do just fine. One with car, trailer empty, and truck empty. I need to lose the stupid 300 pound homemade deck system on my truck.

First post on this forum! And more to come.

Purchased my 2022 Ranger XLT April 2022. Seeing the 7500lb max trailer with max 10% tongue wt, I was skeptical. Joined RVezy and found a rental Apex 185BH 21ft unit at 4000lb loaded. Quick 90 minute trip west of Calgary to Waiparous, I was surprised. Big climbs and turns, no shortage of power and stable on a single axle. I used the Ford Accessories REDARC controller, and worked perfectly. Mileage was about 12-14mpg (17-20L/100km for us up north).

No sway on this trip, but you can see it needs an equalizer to take out the squat. I made sure I was loaded evenly. After seeing others on this forum pulling larger rigs, I would like to try towing a bigger unit (Maybe a 245BHS, ~4700lb twin axle empty with 6500 Gross Wt). Wish the gas tank was bigger, but I can see some pricey retrofits on the market.

The gas tank is small, for sure, but.

Traveling with the wife and dog, I've found that a tank of gas is about the right time to be making a rest stop of some kind anyway. One of the 3 of us will generally have to go to the bathroom, or feel like a snack, or just want to stretch their legs. We just all know that when we stop for gas, we do what we need to and continue on.

Two best upgrades for you (Well, 3 if you count a WD hitch). Rear shocks and a set of Sumosprings (blue). Best bang for the buck if you're going to be towing a lot. After that, match the front shocks to the rear and you'll be all set. (Unless you want to do a bunch of other stuff)
