What are you guys towing?

Deleted member 1634

for reference, it’s nice to go down hills and not be on the brakes for 3 miles. If you keep your foot on the brake very lightly, the brake controller senses the deceleration and applies light braking to the trailer. I have a prodigy p3 and it’s very intuitive with the brakes.

On something that huge, I would definitely use every tool available to me. And so far, I've always used tow/haul mode when towing. And yes, not applying the brakes constantly for 3 miles downhill is nice. Maybe it was just a weird sensation thing I was experiencing yesterday.

Thanks for the response!

That trailer is right around 6k loaded, so it’s not crazy big. But yeah, more tools are always better than less tools.

Engine braking is active in Sport Mode as well.
I've also had engine braking activate in Drive as well. Just not as aggressively. It'll let it slide about 5 over set while in cruise before it'll downshift a few gears to slow you back down. I like the way this powertrain responds in all modes. Except maybe Grass/Gravel/Snow mode. haha

First tow, first post! Used a Curt Wireless echo TBC and Fastway E2 hitch. All worked out nicely on the short drive home.

How was your experience with the Curt wireless controller?

It's been good, it has worked as advertised and had no bluetooth disconnects while the ignition/engine is on. I haven't had to use the manual braking yet but I test it out before most trips to make sure it's working.

I once connected the Curt to the trailer 7 way first on accident, before connecting the Curt to the Ranger, and it appears to work but the brakes lock up no matter what max output/sensitivity you set. So, just follow the instructions and it works just fine.

First time tower here....and man was it nerve racking just thinking about it! Tongue weight, payload, buying a hitch...you name it, I thought about it. You'd think I'd be towing a giant 5th wheel with all my worries but no....just a ski! Better to be educated than stupid right.? I spent hours reading and researching. I'm a little OCD...its that engineer in me.

Picked up a new 2020 Sea Doo supercharged GTR to play with at the lake and made my first tow (in my life) with it across two mountain passes. Went flawless! Love the trailer adjustability system w/ BLIS and the engine breaking. The truck didn't even sweat pulling up the mountains. Very impressed with my unimpressive load!

Damn I love this truck! Best purchase ever! Now for the fun on the new ski......my son insisted on doing all the driving.

Just wondering what everyone’s going to be towing with their new rangers? Post pictures too!!

Jake
So I went and picked up this trailer yesterday to tow to the Jersey shore. A 2017 Jayco 287BHSW. The trailer weighs about 6500lbs in this picture and is 33 ft long. Granted New Jersey is pretty flat but the truck had the muscle to pull the trailer. The biggest issue is the wind from other vehicles flying by at 85 mph. I tried to keep to 60mph so I didn't get blown around to much. We got our camper in place and then poof tropical storm outa nowhere.

Please tell me you didn’t start with a full tank and an empty trip meter?

I did not. I reset the trip meter once I put the trailer on just to see the milage from the dealer to the campsite. I was probably at half a tank when I pulled out from the dealer.

I get 10.9 or so with my trailer on. Premium or 87 it’s the same. I start looking for a gas station I can fit in at just under half tank just in case.

Maybe I was closer to 3/4 tank...
