We are Arizona❣

1. We miss lush vegetation. We just don’t admit it.
2. We laugh at your weather reports.
3. In summer, flip-flops are considered formal attire.
4. If something crazy happens somewhere in the U.S., it will inevitably have a tie to Arizona.
5. We can correctly pronounce saguaro, Mogollon, Prescott, Gila and every item on a Mexican restaurant's menu.
6. We were sick and tired of Jodi Arias way before the rest of the country.
7. There is a huge difference between 105 and 115 degrees.
8. We don’t sweat until it hits 100.
9. We don't whine until it hits 110.
10. The worst part of summer isn't the daily highs. It's the overnight lows (in the 90s).
11. Sweatshirts/sweaters come out when it dips into the 70s. Anything beyond that requires winter wear.
12. Palm trees suck at providing shade.
13. Nothing marks a tourist like posing in front of a saguaro.
14. The best thing about summer is bargains at local resorts. We can finally afford what we’ve read about on TripAdvisor.
15. Bolo ties are the state’s official neckwear, but only 2 types wear them: campaigning politicians and tourists.
(And the Earnhardt Ford guy)
16. Everyone assumes everyone else has a gun. It’s best that way.
17. No way can an impenetrable wall be built. Californians will always find a way in.
18. A summer breeze doesn't provide cooling relief. It's more like opening the oven door.
19. Aerial photography makes advancing walls of dust look way more ominous than they really are. Unless you’re driving.
20. If life was fair, air-conditioning repairmen would earn as much in summer as professional baseball players.
21. We don't make a big deal about stunning sunrises and sunsets because most of ours are like that.
22. We know lightning can cause all sorts of havoc, yet thunderstorms are one of the coolest things about the desert, and we actually get out and talk with our neighbors.
23. The car windshield needs to be replaced (or it will, soon).
24. We keep insulated grocery bags in our cars to keep the ice cream from melting on the way home.
25. The best parking spots aren't the closest, they are the rare ones in the shade.
26. Our favorite smell is the desert after a rain storm (creosote).
27. We don't expect cold water to come out of the cold water tap.
28. We are surprised to see water in a river.
29. We know how to steer a car by alternating between two fingers.
30. We check the yard for rattlesnakes before letting the dogs out.
31. We think 3 inches of rain means the space between drops.
32. We have more fruit in our yards than the grocery store.
33. We put holiday decorations on our cactus instead of a tree.
34. Our summertime outdoor activities start about 5:00 AM and end by 8:00 (AM).
35. We are not surprised when it rains in our backyard and not in the front.
36. We don't bother to dust the furniture unless we are having company.
37. We run into the rain instead of running out of it.
38. Instead of changing from summer to winter grass, we go the desert front/desert back option, which really means dirt.
39. We realize the local TV weather report is really a looped tape.
40. We complain about 10% high humidity.
41. If it rains, we have to pull over to the side of the road because we can't remember how to turn on the wipers.
42. We know that lightning and thunder don’t equal rain.
43. We are happy to see a lizard in our yard because it is something alive.
44. We have to test the pavement temperature with our bare feet to be sure it’s safe to walk the dog. my iPad

Best,
Phil

Phil, I just glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read # 17. :)

True story, we were out your way quite a few years back, and I remember overhearing a couple locals dreading the 6% humidity that was upon them. Here in North Carolina we would think the end is near if it ever got that low.

Lol Some of these are so true!

105 is no big deal when it's dry here but 110 is awful. Yes 5 degrees makes a huge difference!

I have 100's of pictures on my phone and not one are next to a cactus.

I know some hate it but I love the smell of creosote after it rains.

I always tell newbies that you'll know when summer is over when you get cold water from the tap again. This is probably my biggest complaint. After working all day and being hot there's nothing better than a cold shower and you turn on the shower and it's hot.

I use a leaf blower on my patio furniture because there's so much dust on it. lol

#11 is so true. Once you've lived in AZ for a while you'll freeze to death under 70 degrees. ?

Lol, that was great. while in the USAF I was SOOOOOO happy to move from Idaho to Luke AFB in Phoenix. We loved it there once we got used to the heat. Had 3 cars without A/C while we were there but it was worth it. Used to joke I would lose 10 lbs every summer in sweat alone. Moved from there to Virginia. HUGE difference between 6% and 98% humidity. Thanks for bringing back a lot of fond memories.

Phil,
#42 probably originated from our state...it can look like Louisiana before a rain and piddle out quickly into nothing...seen it too many times ...

We moved here FROM VA, and are very happy with the low humidity in spite of the heat. 8 months of paradise every year, no shoveling snow...yeah, we'll take it!
