As stated above, it is recommended you try not to pass the center line of the wheel.

Now I have gone well beyond that and been fine, but every situation will be different. I can tell you I did a couple water crossings in Osceola National Forest that swallowed up the wheels. Biggest thing too is clear water vs muddy water that can really gunk stuff up.

As you can see in the pictures, the water depth was deeper than recommended by the factory. And that's with me staying away from the center of the pit.

I'm amazed you didn't ram water into your intake...

As an I. After getting out of the water, I popped my hood and gave everything a once over. Intake was dry. Even the alternator was dry. I figured the bash guard under the truck prevented a lot of water from coming up as long as I kept my momentum.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Basically wheel center depth limit keeps water out of the rear solid axle breather. Not sure about the front with the Ranger. Might check for water after deep diving!
You can always install an axel breather relocating kit and move it up higher. I think the alternator is the limiting factor.

Can't add any input other than the fact that many Ranger5g users have posted that our alternators are out of stock nationwide.

I'd be VERY careful.

If I were going to be doing any water crossings deeper than the manual recommends I'd want to have a spare on hand. Like, packed somewhere in my rig onhand.

Oh really? That's concerning. So what the hell are people with dead alternators doing? Throwing a generator in the bed and cranking it up?

Pretty much!

Watch till the end for his solution to get home.

One member here recently was out of state. Flew home, found one of last alternators available, flew back and swapped it. Pretty pricey alternator change. Can't find the thread though.

I'd tread lightly.

If the Bronco 2.3 has this same design flaw, Jeep is going to eat its lunch when word gets out.

Hopefully Ford will do a sealed alternator or something.

You reading this Ford?

This is a serious ding on an otherwise pretty great truck.
