In the middle of southern Wyoming (with no cell service) my 2019 Ranger died on me, giving me a wrench symbol and telling me to contact a dealer. Fortunately a Good Samaritan with a cell booster was able to help me contact roadside assistance. The Ford dealer ran an EEC test and got code P0299. Found TSB 20-2152 which states to reprogram the PCM. After reprogramming, it drove fine and I have had no other problem. After contacting another dealer in my hometown, my concern is nobody seems to know why it happened. Has anybody experienced anything like this?

You are probably right. Just wish the flare had happened a little closer to a town.
