It says "must be within 10 mm below the fill plug". I filled it to the bottom of the fill hole. Would that be over filled according to that step?
TIA

I am thinking it means the minimum is 10 mm below.......
I changed my transfer case fluid a year and a half ago, Just filled it until it started dribbling out the fill hole, been doing great ever since(It’s hard to overfill something that starts pouring out the fill hole when its maxed out). The transfer case and diff are a lot less fickle than the transmission, as long as you don’t overheat a component a little over is unlikely to do any harm.
And, yes, I would agree that the at least 10mm under wording is emphasizing a minimum level for the fluid, lest you damage the transfer case.

I just did mine , manual says it takes less than 1 qt? Mine held held way more because I had to run and get another qt?
Did I do it wrong or read it wrong ??

Again, just fill the axles until it runs out the fill hole. IIRC, the front axle takes a bit over 1 quart and the rear axle takes a bit less than 2 quarts.

Correct, the MINIMUM acceptable amount, so dribbling out of the fill hole would be better

Wrong, probably not, confused about what you were filling im thinking so. Ford just likes to print up the manual so it's as confusing as possible that's all ?

If you put almost two QTs in congrats, that's the transfer case, the front axle takes less than a QT, and if you squeezed two in, you'd have a mess because you'd have 1 and change on the floor.

I can attest that the front axle takes less than one QT of axle gear oil.

I did all three , the front and rear differentials held what the manual said , but the transfer case took more than 1 qt of the LV Merc, the manual says less than 1 qt of the Lv Merc so I only bought 1 and it didn't run out the hole so I went and got another and it took half of that...
So manual says "23.67 Oz " but mine held 1qt and a half ? Is it still 32 Oz to a qt ? Looked like more than a qt when i drained it also ...

18000 miles , rear was pretty nasty and black , no metal pieces but magnet was gunked up , front and transfer case not too bad but still kinda nasty imo...

Good catch, I was just grouping them together without looking at the amounts, the way they've got that printed up the actual fluid amount for the diff or the xfer case winds up looking like it lines up with the next item on the list so I wind triple checking that I've got the right fluid before I start on one

The fact that one is in QTs and one is in OZs is another example of a poorly written manual. You're correct, I replied at almost midnight and missed it, sorry buddy

No need for sorry, i was just wondering wtf Ford ? Or wtf me ? I was sure that 24 Oz and or the metric equivalent would be in 1 32 0z and or metric equivalent bottle , but it took 2 somehow ? ... I would guess since mine is a SuperCab, it holds more and I'm adjusting my manual to read " 44.3 oz" and to hell with the metric equivalent...

I did mine some time ago, T Case, front and rear diffs. I just filled them until it started to dribble out the hole. All good. Also you can re-use the plugs, throwing them out is just silly, I just applied some liquid Teflon pipe sealant(Permatex high temp), all good and no leaks.
