Ford says 7500# towing with a trailer brake.
Does Ford offer a trailer brake? I ordered the tow package, but it doesn't state that it comes with a brake controller.

No brake controller. I believe the only midsize truck with a brake controller option is the Chevy Colorado.

Thanks RD. Should they list the towing capacity with aftermarket equipment?

I could be wrong but I think most trailers being pulled by something the size of the ranger will have an inertia trailer. At least that was how I interpreted their rating.

Concerned about towing?

They said they were towing 2 trailers with them one weighed 6000# and the other around 2500#.

The person pulling the 2500# said they were comfortably doing 60 mph with the trailer and hand no shortage of power pulling over the mountain passes.

What you don't see in the picture is a F350 about 10 feet ahead pulling the Ranger with a tow strap..

Having logged 6000 miles in my 2017 Escape pulling a 7x14 cargo trailer 2.0L EcoBoost has plenty of power. I went through the rocky mountains at or above the max weight (3500+) and could blow by the semi's going up the steep grades on I-80 and I-40 going about 40 MPH. It is wind resistance that is the issue towing, not weight. Once I got on the level ground I would run about 55 MPH and the semi's that I passed would blow by me. The select shift that lets you shift like a manual transmission is what really helps. Heading back to California with the trailer empty, I was ran about 65 MPH and got worse gas mileage than when loaded. 11.5 vs 12.5 loaded. My trailer was a tall v-nose, 8.5 FT from the ground to the top.

That's horrible fuel mileage. I don't think anyone can deny that the Ranger will be able to tow what it's rated for. It's a matter of whether it will be able to tow well...

I don't do much towing these days, but when I had a 7x14 cargo trailer with an interior height of 6'6" (so I didn't have crouch the whole time), I made a bunch of trips between Wichita Falls and Dallas TX with my 2013 Ram. I could tell the drag from the trailer was pretty bad depending on driving into the wind or with it. I bought some vortex generator from Airtab. After watching their video, I was convinced they would work. I bought the recommended quantity per the websites instructions and installed them on my trailer. After a few trips, I noticed my truck wasn't always dropping down a gear to keep a certain speed. No idea if they improved my gas mileage, but I didn't keep track of it either. They definitely helped reduce the wear and tear on the tranny and it was less annoying without the constant gear shifts. If I ever get another trailer of any kind, I will be buying and installing these again.

'01 F250 V10 Crew 4x4 on 35's with 4.88's gears, and with a huge Lance Truck Camper plus a flat bed with my off road Explorer on it, totaling probably 18k lbs and I get about 9-10 mpg. Oh and I can keep up with and pass the semi's:sunglasses:

My grandfather taught me to drive with his old Econoline van with the 6.8 V10. Talk about beast mode. You could tow the house away with that motor.

Somebody going to next drive event needs to find which truck they are pulling the trailer with and see what they are using for a brake controller on it.

It's odd that they give specs using a brake controller but don't actually offer one in the tow package. It's like saying the Mustang can do a sub 10 second 1/4 mile*

*Using NOS, a custom supercharger kit and 500lbs weight reduction.
