I bought more truck 'features' than I can appreciate.
TBH, I hate the touch screen. I've tried to live with it for the last 3 months.
Specifically the climate controls. It took the wife like 10 minutes to figure out in Android auto, you have to click on the FORD App to get back to the default screen.. dumb. (This was after she got pissed at me for yanking the USB cable for the 4th time to get back to the home screen and interrupting the music. and navigation.. Our 17 Chevy Volt has a way better climate, stereo and touchscreen setup!)
I hate taking my eyes off the road to make an adjustment. Got back in the wifes Ram 2500 Tradesman.... basic = good!...

I've read about other people upgrading an F150 in another forum, but never a downgrade.
I intend to keep the factory screen and dash in case I decide to sell the truck.
I'm thinking this should be doable if the wiring harness is compatible and likely a lot of playing around in FORScan.

I'm hoping some of you have have some advice on how to proceed.

p.s.
on the topic of *why?!*
Why does Ford restrict the basic safety feature of heated mirrors to Lariat only?
Ram puts it on all their trucks..

Sorry, I don't have any advice on the screen transplant. But I am not a fan of the touchscreen either when it comes to HVAC or other basic controls that you ought to be able to access without taking your eyes off the road. I prefer to use the redundant manual HVAC controls below the touchscreen, you should have them on your Lariat.
As for why Ford doesn't include heated side mirrors as standard, I think you already know the an$wer. If they would stoop to deleting chump change items like bed tie downs to save a buck, they wouldn't hesitate to withhold heated mirrors and make them an option.

I am intrigued - I have wondered if it was possible to replace the climate controls from an XL myself. I think a lot of people hate the touch screen for climate control and would rather have dial and push buttons for controls. (I miss the simplicity of pre - touch screen technology that’s for sure). But I wouldn’t want to switch the larger touch screen for the 4 “ screen off the XL. I don’t need the volume or tuning knobs. I can change that through the steering wheel controls. And I am okay with losing “dual” zone climate control. Don’t care about this convenience - if my wife has it up to 24c on her side and I’m like 19 - it’s still going to get to 24 degrees in the whole cab no matter what. It would defy science otherwise.?

Gonna keep an eye on this thread for answers

Man just hit the home button on the steering wheel to get back to the Home Screen.

This may be one of the most senseless things I’ve heard lately, but some XL owner out there needs to make friends with you quick! ?

home button on the steering wheel is your friend.

still, I do get the irritation about the layers of options if, say, I want to change my audio input. I do use the climate control buttons on my XLT instead of diving into the touchscreen. but I might actually use the touchscreen for this if it didn't take so many button presses to get from navigation to climate control.

I continue to wonder if the new AA update they're working on will make any changes to these things or not. as well as whether our Sync systems will play nice with it. I would definitely appreciate it if AA integrated with the vehicle systems better, rather than just being a separate app that runs on top of everything.

Does the Lariat not have physical buttons for climate and radio below the screen?
And if you don't like the SYNC3 screen, wait until you the gigantic SYNC4 in the new models.

It wasn't useless, for me - now I know how to get to the regular screen when my phone is plugged in. I recently took a trip and used my phone for navi and it was driving me nuts on not being able to get back to the default menu screens.
Are you referring to use of the Home button or clicking on the Ford App to return home?
