Topper shell with roof tent?

What are options for a cap with a roof tent?
I see the HD in the Are CX is an option but I really like the CX Evolve but i was told a tents too heavy. Any other options?

I have never seen anyone do this. On my 6G I am thinking of going with a softopper, rack, then a plate or flat platform on top. I would have it flush with the roof. Then hopefully I would not run into any wind resistance. On that flat surface I could when needed erect a standard 2 man tent with a latter. . I would also have it so I could carry other things ie. Sup's, Kayaks etc. having a RTT on the truck all the time does not make sense to me. I would only use it when camping. Save on the weight, improved gas mileage and have the platform available to carry other things.

ARE has an addition structure that can be added inside of canopies to support the weight of a roof top tent. You'll probably have to talk to a canopy dealer to get the right options added. TrailRecon had one on his truck. Starts talking about it about the 6:15 mark

At Overland Expo East there was a Ranger from Main Line Overland with an RSI SmartCap and iKamper mounted on top. Very stout looking setup.

I also tossed in the Canyon that GM had on display with an RSI SmartCap, rooftop tent, and a 270* awning.

I bought my Smartcap from Main Line Overland. Got a discount, no tax and cheap freight shipping. All around it was a good deal. I just had to wait 2 months for it to arrive. Went with the EVOa. These are the coolest looking caps available.

I placed my RTT on top of a basic leer topper. Has been on there almost 2 years with no issues.
