Catching the old oil is never a problem with my never miss drain system. For oil pan & oil filter spout. :like:

I think the problem is the multi-national aspect of Ford.

Ranger comes from Australia to the US market, Hey! Lets put the 2.3L in her!
Unfortunately, none of the oil change stuff lines up...like filter access, oil drainage, etc...

It's OK, I can deal with it. I like the 2.3L just as well.

IMHO, the filter access on the Ranger is one of the easiest and with the little drainage shoot one of the least messy vehicles I have had over the past 50 years. All of the 4x4 pickups I have owned with a skid plate restricted access to the drain plug. The Ranger skid plate is by far the easiest to remove, loosen two bolts and remove two bolts and off it comes in about 10 seconds.

I am 82. Still change oil/filters/rotate tires, wash/wax the Ranger and the Corvette. We live on 10 acres. There is lots to do in the gardens in addition to cutting, splitting and stacking firewood. We all need to stay active and busy. If not, the Grim Reaper will be knocking at your door.

So if I were retired, as many on this tread are, I might go back to changing my own oil and tire rotations. I'd have all freakin' day to commit to vehicle maintenance, or lawn care, or sitting on the deck drinking a cold one watching all the birds, squirrels, deer etc. visit our back yard.

For me the best part of being retired is I feel no pressure to get things done. I certainly have plenty to do but I take my time and when I feel like stopping I do. I would love to sleep in past 5 am but the dogs won't have anything to do with that. ☹

59 and changing oil on 6 vehicles, Ranger, Edge, daughters Fusion, other daughters Excel, boat and Thing. Seems I'm always changing oil and take the opportunity to check other things like brakes, rotate tires, inspect exhaust... I enjoy working on vehicles, anything mechanical really. Something different than computers I deal with daily and a chance to do something that requires movement other than my fingers. I'll do most jobs myself on the dailies unless it starts requiring lots of tools I don't have or would take me multiple days. The toys I'll do just about everything on.
I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
Forgot, the easiest one's to change oil on is the Thing followed by the Ranger. No ramps or jack required for either. Easy to get under both and reach everything.

I'm not fully retired yet but darn close. I only work a few days a month now and even that's getting cut down. For me the best part it's not having the anxiety on Sunday that Monday is right around the corner. I have to check my phone/calendar often to see what day it is. lol

Sleeping in late is one thing I wish I could do. I'm so darn programed into getting up early. For me, sleeping late is 6:00am which is rare. But that's what naps are for. :wink:

I like the way Subaru does it...

And since were talking about old guys changing oil...I'd like an oil filter re-location kit that mounts the oil filter to within easy access, like the Subaru. I would also like a ball valve that can be opened through a linkage setup that also goes up into the engine compartment. I would like this ball valve to be located just behind the radiator so all I have to do is shove the drain pan just under the front of the truck. I would like a ignition cancel switch tied into the linkage. I would be happy if this was a dealer installed option. I would pay $400 for it, if it was offered.

Even easier is to attach Futomo valve with 10" rubber hose extension that routes drain around the skid plate...I just slide my oil collector under the hose, open the valve, loosen the oil filter, go make a sandwich and let it drain...come back in 1/2 hour, replace oil filter, close valve, refill with fresh oil...
