Considered posting as a poll, how old is too old ? Well today there was an ominous sign I am on the cusp, had changed oil in 2 family cars in the last 6 weeks and both non events, that ended today as I badly located the collection pan, positioning it to rear of the drain plug vs to the side and a gusher created a disgusting oily mess on the garage floor, followed by an extended period of profanity. ( our Hyundai has a fumoto) I'm 71 and have been changing oil countless times since around 15 yrs old. Oh and to add insult to injury I had a slight miss with the filter, triggering another period of extended profanity. This change was done at 7k miles, monitor said I had 1.5k miles to go, however if the oil was sent out for an analysis I'd be surprised if there wasn't shearing as it seemed a bit thin - judging how quickly it spread all over the floor, lol.

So who is the oldest grease monkey on here ?

I would say it is more about physical abilities than it is age. I'm 51 and haven't changed oil in any of my vehicles for a while now, but I am also disabled too.

But I will agree that we all reach a point where we have to admit we can't do things like we use to.

At 59 I'm more than physically (maybe not mentally ) capable of changing my oil and rotating my tires. I have no desire to do this anymore and luckily have a great shop that I 100% trust doing this and more to my truck.

74 this Dec. Still change oil/filters/rotate tires, wash/wax two vehicles and maintain our travel trailer. Mow/trim/weed-eat yard every 5 days or so.
Usual aches n pains, but I consider myself "vintage" and not ready to be put up.

I will be 78 in a couple of months and am still servicing my three vehicles, although, because of low mileage, I only have to do each one once a year. I usually do it in September after the heat of the summer is waning and before the cold of winter. I also hand wax each one in September or October.
I will admit the getting up from the roll-around is getting harder as time goes along.

All that work will keep you young Steve.

65 in a few months. I gave up changing oil a long time ago but keep busy maintaining two houses and clearing snow. Damn knee that I destroyed makes everything painful.

Ashamed too say I'm only 40. Since oil change prices at the stealership have doubled I started doing my own again. I just despise working on vehicles. I'll gladly work on my tractor but my truck I find to be an annoyance lol

OP if that's you in the avatar you look damn good for 71 !!! :)

I can still do it at 62 and enjoy it, but haven't yet cause of warranty (5K miles) , But I still wonder every time if they really put full syn in it at the "FAST LANE"...

I did my own tire rotation though, I worry about them chipping/scratching the wheels. (pretty anal about wheels)

Same here. It's not worth my time. (not quite 59 tho) Got better things to do.

At 56 I'm changing own oil and rotating tires! Was laying under the Ranger when the wife came home one saturday.....all she saw was my feet from under the Ranger......she yelled out at me if I was OK......told her I was resting watching the oil run out as I was too tired to crawl out!
