These will work but you'll have to grind down part of the shoulder... Also, since there is not real structure they attach to, other than the bed steel, you want to be careful what you attach to them... only use the oem tie downs for something you need to cinch down securely...

So these fit into the two larger oval holes in the side of the bed? (pic below) How much modification do they need, is it like a job for a dremel, or will a hand file work?

I'd really love to just add a reinforcing plate under the rails or something and add some tiedowns there. Would make it a lot easier to lash smaller things into the bed

I didn't do it myself... maybe 1/8 inch of trimming... a dremel would be faster. These were from my '16 colorado.

Just went to the garage and used a hand file.

Looks great but is it reinforced behind there? If not I'd be concerned about tying anything down with a lot of weight and pulling on the sides of the bed. I can't get to mine to see as I have a drop in liner.

No, it basically pinches the metal between the little spacer and the tie down. It's pretty sturdy. I wouldn't use that for anything real heavy but would be ok if just using some bungee cords. I like it as it also helps secure the bed rug to the sides as well. This is no difference than how it was installed on my colorado.

From the DeeZee site:
Dee Zee Tie Downs are made of cast aluminum with a black powder coated finish and rated for the maximum strength of your truck bed.

Whatever that means...

I thought I remembered reading someone asking about this a while back and finding out that those holes have zero reinforcing so any tie downs would fail quickly if really used for anything more than a bungee.

Does anyone else remember that conversation?

Yes,I vaguely remember it too. I thought there were no reinforcements behind them and I wouldn't trust anything with any weight being tied to them. I'd hate to see you get out of your truck and see 2 large holes in the bed sides. :crying:

Those bed rail clamps look like a good alternative as the fold down and out of the way when not in use and at least you have the rail for support. Worse case they fall off but at least you won't be doing and damage to the side of the bed wall.
